I Have a Question

Unlike everybody else in here, I will at least attempt to look at this from your point of view.

I completely understand what you are saying, and I agree that if Matt is anything like what we've been hearing it would make sense... To have the Elite offense. I get what your saying and even agree with it to a certain extent....

Now hear ms out, if there was a way that we could know that he'd be the next Jordan Gross or better, and would Never miss a game... Then yes, maybe I'd even entertain this idea. The fact of the matter is, there are no guarantees with ANY draft pick/player.

With all that said 3 first rounders is absurd!

Finally, we will draft Defense in this draft imo. Best player available as always, and not necessarily by need.

I get the Elite Offense comments, because you're right, but I'm more of the mind of finding the next Byron Bell... Sure he's made some mistakes, but he's been solid up front.

That's all I got, but at least I gave u a fair shake

I'm excited at the possibilities next year with this offense. There's no question most of our draft picks and free agent concerns should be totally focused on the defensive side of the ball. With all of that said, I have a question. Some of you might flame me for even asking it, but just try to remember it is an honest question I'm asking.

Our offense has the potential to be absolutely legendary. Already Cam has set a record for breaking records. Right now, I believe J-Stew will want to finish his career as a Panther, and would be willing to take less money to stay. With D-Will and J-Stew giving each other fresh legs by sharing carries, they would form the ultimate tag team of runners this league has ever seen. (Minnesota can't say that, Tennessee can't say that. All they have is one great runner) Smitty is the best 6' under receiver in the history of the NFL, and with Cam, may become one of the best to ever play the game. (He is already that in my book) Lafell is developing superbly, exceeding all my expectations, and Gettis (who I call the taller version of Marvin Harrison) will be back to challenge Lafell for #2.

My question is, are you tempted to make a great offense even greater? Would you be willing to give up 3 first rounders to move up and draft Matt Kalil?

Think about it for a second. Our expectation as a team is to be in the playoffs consistently, year in year out. So our average draft positioning will be 25-32 every year. And again, with such a great team, free agents will be flocking to Carolina to sign with this team. So essentially these free agents will be like signing first round picks with experience under their belt. Ultimately with this plan, the only drawback I can see from it, is it will be boring watching the draft on tv the first day.:D

Going back to the expectations of this offense down the road. J-Stew is averaging 5.1 yards a carry, and D-Will is averaging almost 5.6 yards a carry. Together they are now over 1400 yards, and with Cam, we have a 2,000 yard rushing offense. If we can do that with this o-line, imagine what we can do with another Kalil on the line. I don't know about any of you, but I'm tempted to make this deal. Finally, if I'm going to get flamed for suggesting this, I'm going to be the first to do so with this smiley.

I just see the possibilities of having a historical offense, will draw the top defensive talent to Carolina. We see today that Smitty and Olsen, two of our top receiving threats, didn't have a lot of stats. Still, we dominated. The prospect of adding Kalil is very enticing to me. Again, with top defensive talent being drawn to Carolina, we could build our defense through that arena, and at the same time draft defensive prospects in rounds 2-7 where needed.

A little over a decade ago, someone in the Colt's front office had a similar thought...

Why three first round picks?

First question is, where will Kalil be drafted in the first round: #2 - what? If the Rams finish with the #1 pick over the Colts, they could trade it to the Colts for a fortune (including the #1), and they may take Kalil there promoting him as their new Orlando Pace or they could draft Kalil at #1 just like they did Pace, and let the Colts take Luck at #2, but they'd be missing out on a potential treasure of picks (Could the Rams pick Luck?? Maybe...he won't be as costly as Bradford was, but they have a lot of money in Bradford). Not sure how much the Colts have to offer, though. We'll see who else tries to buy the pick, but anyway, the Rams are one of those teams that has to want Kalil, especially after how Bradford was harassed this season.

But anyway, the second question is, depending on where he will be drafted, what would it take to move up and take him? In most people's minds, it'd take a whole lot. In most GM's minds, it might take more than we'd be willing to give up...but I'd still like to see what the answer to that question is first.

I do agree that the Panthers will get better faster by adding to the Defense from free agency, and adding depth through the drafting of young talent that can learn behind those acquisitions until they leave in a few years. You don't need ALL YOUR DRAFT PICKS to be able to do that. You just need to draft better with the ones you still have.
