Trade up to 4th Overall and take Claiborne?

I wouldn't be mad if it happened. For one we wont have to throw his way for the next 15 years twice a year if he ends up being the next revis. But then were losing more picks which has kind of been our draft downfall since we can't use the few picks we've had right.

This just sounds like a terrible terrible idea. The last thing I want to hear about for the next 10 years is what the pick we gave up to move up for him could have been.

This franchise needs to be done with trading up.

From a talent perspective trading up for Otah was a great move.

I wouldn't mind for a blue chip talent like Claiborne, but Hurney screwed the pooch on Everette Brown, AE and then tried with Clausen.

Generally I don't like trading up, but for a player if this caliber I think you could make an argument. Having two very good cover CB's would help our pass rush and D immensely.

if we were one good cb away from competing then yes.... but thats not the case

You can argue against that as well. Beason and Edwards are coming back, Fua, McClain and Senn all got valuable experience and CJ should be back to form with his back benefitting from the off season.

Now, IMO, your only two real holes are at CB and FS. Couple Claiborne with Gamble and an improved front seven we could easily be one of the best teams in the NFC if the O stays the course.

I think people are undervaluing Claiborne's talent. Obviously, there is no guarantees, but Claiborne has the talent to be an elite corner. Then, as JOAT (I believe) pointed out, having a CB tandem of Gamble and Claiborne (and probably Hogan and Munnerlyn/Hogan) you help out the pass rush immensely. It's called a "coverage sack". Happens all the time with the top secondaries. When the DBs cover the receivers so well it buys the DL an extra couple seconds to get after the QB.

Like I said, Claiborne is the only player I would not mind moving up for. While I would love to pick up 2 potentially good-to-solid players, you can't be upset with turning those two into a potentially elite player.
