Simple Question for everybody about DEs.

If we draft a DE, do we want

a DE/OLB, or

a DE/DT?

I want a DE/DT, as long as I'm convinced that he can transition to the NFL. If we get a DE/LB in the first round, he better be BPA.

this team needs somebody who can rush the passer, and do it well. not sure how often i want one of my best pass rushers, dropping back into coverage in a game if that is what he does best.

i we get a DE i think he needs to be big enough that he can slide inside when needed.

I'd normally say no to tweeners too. But there's a couple that would work out for us. Whitney and Curry are two that I can think of. I'd rather get a CB in the first though.

Vinny Curry is looked at as a possible DE/OLB prospect, but he is definitely no tweener.

I agree 100%.It takes more than to have average DEs in the NFL.Constant pressure on the qb is essential in the NFL and I see that as our greatest challage on turning our defense around.Sure we need to upgrade our secondary and DT but the one position you cannot skimp on is a pass rusher.

Being able to play more than one position doesn't make you a tweener. Not being good enough at either one to become efficient at it makes you a tweener.

Think Everette Brown. Had the size for a 3-4 OLB, but not the hips or coverage ability, however, didn't have the size or strength for DE...basically there was no real good fit for him.

Coples is the most talented fit in this mold. Crick is a decent alternative option but not something we should spend our first pick on

RB is right about the DE side of things. Coples is the most talented of that group.

If you're looking at the more DT types, Cox slid to the outside on occasion this past season.

Ingram and Perry are the more DE/OLB ones I like in this draft

and then Jake Bequette and Frank Alexander are interesting mid-late rounders

We need to invest in our front 4. Football is won in the trenches on both sides of the ball, and having a rotation with Johnson, Hardy, Coples and Kieser in multiple 4-3/3-4 looks would be advantageous. The big question is after the combine where his stock will be, I'd wager he could go as high as Cleveland.

i like crick in the 2nd or very late first round.
