Possible Surprise FA?

We noted on Thursday that the Bills and receiver Stevie Johnson have exchanged contract proposals. But that may not have been the sign of progress that it initially appeared to be.

The Associated Press quotes an unnamed person familiar with the contract talks as saying that the two sides are “far apart.” They’re scheduled to talk at the Scouting Combine, but if they’re far apart now, there may not be enough time to get a deal done before the start of free agency on March 13.

That raises the question of whether the Bills would put the franchise tag on Johnson. The report says Johnson doesn’t expect the Bills to use the franchise tag, but then again Johnson may not know what the Bills’ plans are in that regard.

The franchise tender for wide receivers will be about $9.6 million for the 2012 season.

Anyone intrested in a playmaking WR with a checkered past?

He would maybe love an opportunity to play in a warmer area with Cam tossing deep passes at him rather than Fitzpatrick in the arctic circle.

I coud see us giving him close to the money hes looking for. :cam:

    • It's definitely a historical issue at QB but to be perfectly blunt, we also don't do a good job of really developing almost any position if you look at the last decade or so. I tend to be on the side of that being far less a development issue than an evaluation deficiency.  I think we are in the situation at QB2/3 recently due to the overall roster being absolutely abhorrent and the QB classes being quite thin. It is harder to justify another Matt Corral(or several) when you can potentially get a real two deep contributor at other positions.  But, it was a lot of hard work to get to the point where are roster is so incredibly bad that luxury picks literally are not in our vocabulary.  This is the reaping what you sow portion of our history.
    • That is what I meant about our front office. They are like someone filling out a March Madness bracket based on preference of uniform colors and mascots. There's no rhyme of reason to some of these fugg'n mind numbing decisions they make.  They go all in on these flimsy-@ss prospects and are gun shy when it comes to more solid prospects.  It's literally maddening and the reason I stopped being so emotionally involved in this team. Heck the only reason I'm active on the board today is one, it's my day off and two, it's cut down time.
