Do you/Did you smoke cigarettes?

Started smoking when I was 9 and quit when I was 14... Started smoking again 1 year later at 15 and quit again at 19. Started smoking again at 20 and then quit at 21. Finally, I've been smoke free for almost 5 years. I ditched all my smoking friends and went cold turkey. I still crave cigarette like crazy sometimes. I got 1 cigarette in my car but I refuse to smoke it. If the world will come to an end in 2012 I will light that motherfuger up. While everyone will run and scream I will slowly inhale and exhale my last cigarette.

Smoked for 35 years from the time I joined the Navy at 17 until a couple years ago. Have not had a smoke in 2 years and did it cold turkey with a couple tricks.

Never told my wife I was quitting, never told anybody. Just decided to set a date and put it in my mind. The date also coincided with the start date of our annual Caribbean vacation. So I didn't take any smokes with me and nobody knew me where I was going.

We were a day and a half into our vacation before my wife even noticed I hadn't smoked. Of course, I never smoked in the house and rarely smoked indoors anywhere. By not telling anyone and committing to a date myself, I would only let myself down if I didn't succeed.

I still have a couple triggers I have to recognize- one of the biggest was my drive to work everyday. I lit up a cigarette at the same 2 traffic lights everyday and, although my Tahoe didn't stink of cigarettes, I could tell. And my wife was so proud, I was allowed to buy myself a brand new Tahoe LTZ in 2010!

I don't miss it, but I've had a couple experiences since quitting that had me a little spooked. Smokers who quit will have dreams about smoking again. I thought it was very weird, so I asked some people I know who also quit and they confirmed it. I've had a few of those...

    • Just stop, man. All the college stats don't matter. Plenty of guys who put up big numbers in college flop in the NFL and you and I both know that there are 1st round and top 10 busts every year. While we definitely hope T-Mac isn't one and we hope he proves to be a great NFL WR, you can't assume poo about a rookie who hasn't played a down of NFL football yet.
    • therein lies the problem.  Carry on
    • Again, it's not about performance, it's purely a statement about his ability as a football player. Which right now, is better than Chark ever was, I don't understand how that is a controversial statement. This isn't someone who had a 1,500 yard season with a dozen touchdowns while being a threat the other team was afraid of on every snap.  It's literally a guy who had a couple good games and then was just peppered with targets in the others because the team had no other viable WRs and he still barely cracked 1,000 yards, and then was barely even a JAG for the rest of his career outside that one season. Just look at it this way, take names aside, you're saying a guy who's peak was 1,008 yards and 2nd best season was 706 yards, was a better football player at that time than a WR who was just taken in the Top 10 and had multiple teams trying to trade up to get them. That's beyond asinine thinking.  I'm genuinely not even sure Chark would make the argument himself if he was being completely honest and objective about it.
