Reed: Meeks/Brown could be match made in Heaven.

Up until the final contract that was a pay/play kind of contract...if you look at time spent letting brain heal vs. what he was paid. Money was thrown away that could've been used to just keep Spoon.

Hindsight doesn't make a really good argument.

AS has been stated over and over, it was never SPOON OR MORGAN anyway.

Woodie recently posted a whole dissertation about it. Both were made offers. Me personally? I may not have kept Morgan THAT time, and certainly not when they had him under that last deal though to their credit it was very cap friendly so I can't bitch too much. But I am guessing that even if they had let Morgan go, that wouldn't have affected their offer to Spoon. Smart FOs have values in mind for players and don't let one contract offer determine another one whether it is lowball or highball.

Both of our first picks have Meeks written all over them which is good. It might be a small hint that Fox is slightly releasing his tight grip on molding the D his way.

Or it could be that Fox has always let him coordinators lobby for the players they want and mold the defense like they wanted. But Trgo was not a DC before here so he may not have had a philosophy or track record.

Meeks does, so him getting players like he had in Indy just proves that Fox isn't the meddling micro-manager that he has been accused of in the past.

Happens with lots of players. Look at Jenkins. We paid him to sit on the bench for 2 years rehabbing injuries. Smith missed a year in 2004, Jake in 2007. Injuries happen to good and bad players alike.

Spoon would have gotten more money to play in St Louis regardless of what we offered. They wanted him badly and would have just upped their offer if we had increased ours. We weren't going to keep him unless we paid him Peppers type of money. Honestly it wasn't justified to pay him what the Rams did. How many pro-bowls has he made while a Ram?

Dungy likes to let his coordinators teach and coach without much meddling; if Meeks is allowed to teach and coach without much meddling I expect great success as we do have more talent outside the Dline as SKULL and others have pointed out.

To Meddle or Not To Meddle, THAT is the question!

Trgo's problem was that he wasn't really strong on the whole Zone thing.. Seems like Fox wanted more zone oriented schemes to take advantage of the current hard hitting talent. Our players aren't fast, they're quick, typical Zone players. Trgo became coordinator with players completely opposite of that.

Meeks is a zone guy, a really good one at that. Hopefully he can bring out some wins. We're not really looking for "productive" guys.. we're looking for some 3 and outs. You can have 25 tackles in a game.. but that usually says you can't stop someone.

If our offense is in Gear, and our defense lives up to the Meeks hype, we will actually see a decrease in production from the likes of Beason and Davis and several other leading tacklers.

what is good about Meeks being here is him applying his philosophy to our personel. not bringing in his own personel and turning us into Indy's defense. because as you'll recall they got ran all over because they were all Brown's size.

i think Brown is a good pick, but the transformation should stop there. let him coach up kemo and peppers and johnson, not replace them with LB type bodies.

I think that Meeks and Fox just see eye to eye more thats all speculation though. . Jon Fox has always love DEs and CBs but we have been having trouble finding a good DT and this year has been the same.

I think everyone's forgetting too about how Meeks will develop Charles Johnson...

I could easily see it being Brown/Johnson next year (if not this year, depending on Pep)

Brayton fits the mold of Run stopping DE or a 1 gap DT . I think Meeks will help him out also.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
