Met A Sports Writer Tonight

Are all of you in a good mood all the time? Sometimes I'll be grocery shopping and I'll let someone with only a few things go ahead of me in line. They would swear I was the nicest guy ever. Other times, I'll have such rage that if someone stops to eat free samples in front of me and won't move, I'll bash their cart out of my way and they think who let this asshole out in public? All depends on my mood. Maybe I just got in a fight with the ol lady or maybe I just got laid and so I'm in a decent mood. Sometimes when I'm driving and I stop at a stop sign the same time as someone else, I wave then through, and other times I will smash past. Again, it all changes by the minute. I'm pretty sure Smitty is just a normal guy that has days where he would prefer not to be bothered by men in their 30's asking for autographs. Just my two cents.

I would definitely settle for a pro athlete that performs well on the field. However I would prefer athletes that are cordial with the media and fans. Their skill sets are unique and entertaining but they don't actually produce anything. Without the NFL most of them are nobodies. They owe it to the league and fans to be accessible. I've never read an NFL contract but I would bet there are media requirements written into them.

I can see why a player dislikes the media. Sometimes the media can write negative stories about you (sometimes they are true). These same players will finish their career and apply for positions at ESPN or NFLN. Next thing you know they are calling active players a snitch on twitter.

That's why it's so funny to read how people hate sports reporters but love the athletes. Many of them become sports reporters. Where's the line of demarkation from hero to douchebag, Zod? When they take off the helmet for the last time?

Regardless I don't think anyone deserves to have their privacy bothered by a writer, but absolutely no writer deserves to be disrespected for just doing his job too. Can't hate on a writer for just asking for an interview because it's his job, then applaud an athlete for cussing out a writer because he asked a question.

And that is EXACTLY what I LOVE about SS. He doesn't give a fug about what others think. He lives HIS life. He not a politically correct Peyton Manning douche who has never seen an endorsement he didn't like. Smitty is a real man- not a corporate representation of a person.

Oh dear lord. Manning tells it like it is: "Idiot kicker" anyone? He just has a modicum of class.

No, he's a sheep. Everyone in the NFL has those sentiments or at the very least doesn't give a flip about the kickers, so he is safe in expressing the same. Manning is an amazing football player, no doubt, but he is a pawn of the highest magnitude. He has no voice, other than "Baaaaaa!".

Plus I just love seeing him fill his drawers in clutch big-game/playoff situations. He does a fine job of that.

You're clearly insane.

Personally I don't give a rats ass how polite our players are to reporters. Most sports reporters are total and complete douche bags.

I've heard photographers are worse

Smith has always come across to me as one of those personalities that just doesn't filter their emotions, or for that matter their words. He also doesn't give a flying rip about his public image so he pretty much doesn't care how it affects anyone outside of family and closest friends. This type tends to be a tad stubborn too, which means the door to his bad side generally only swings in one direction.

Yeah, that makes him a tough person to be around sometimes, especially for people he holds in contempt (likely most reporters, if not all).

But then, football games aren't popularity contests, are they?

Not even close.

Have you looked at Michael Irvin's stats.

Very close to SS, but with Super Bowls.

I am not saying that Smith should be in, he is one of the many bubble WR's that people will bring up, but the numbers are close. It's the Super Bowl's that will keep him out.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
