Do you think Cam's success had an impact on how people look at RG3?

It probably did.

It really shouldn't have though.

While they may share some common characteristics (mobility being the most obvious) Newton and Griffin are not the same type of quarterback.

Newton's play most closely mirrors the style of guys like John Elway and Brett Favre, while Griffin is more similar stylewise to Michael Vick (though clearly a thousand times smarter and with a better head on his shoulders).

Truthfully, it's like asking if Joe Montana's success helped people's perceptions of Ben Roethlisberger.

forget the color thing that was implied.

cam newton transcended all that worthless crap discussion.

both rg3 and luck will be compared to newton just like every early pick rookie QB will for the next 10 years and will fail to compare adequately.

cam newton is now the new standard and goal for any building/rebuilding franchise.

This. ^^^^^^^^^^

Every rookie will be compared to Newton just like in the past they were all compared to Manning who previously held the record.

Don't know why so many people are hating on the thread, OP has a point. Is it race related? Yeah, IMO. IF Cam would've sucked really bad, RG3 might have not been so highly sought for. GM and HC would've have wanted to stick with the traditionally QB, and not take a risk on a athletic black QB. People were comparing Cam to, Jamarcus Russell, Akili Smith, VY, and another black QB that has not fared well in the NFL. But now another young black QB, is coming out and people are comparing him to Cam. Imagine in 5 years how many black QB's will be looked at by GM's and HC as the next great QB? Especially if RG3 comes in and has a good year as a rookie.

Wow. Great novel concept for a thread topic. We haven't debated this idea since...................

2 weeks ago............................................

Bored given this is your second thread in 9 minutes???

Here are some novel ideas for the next five redundant posts of the week..........................................

How long will it be before Smitty punches Norman in the mouth???

Who is going to be on the bubble??

Will Cam have a sophomore slump??

WIll Beason or Kuechly start at middle linebacker??

Who will have more yards?? Williams or Stewart???

hahaha what a jerk but so true

If RGIII and zod forbid, The Golden Calf of Bristol have good years, the talking heads that hated on Cam will say that this is the new NFL and that the rule changes have created a passing league where dual threat QBs can finally succeed. (I know The Golden Calf of Bristol's not really a dual threat, I'm just guessing that's how the media will spin it.)

If RGIII has a huge season and Luck breaks Cam's passing record, it will be hard to argue with their logic.

Me personally? I don't think that either of those things will happen and the haters will just have to admit that Cam is a rare talent. We shall see.

several douchebags have already made this argument mostly in regards to defenses not being ready in the wake of the lockout.

yeah i'm sure a 6'6" 250 pound pile of twisted steel with 4.59 speed, a cannon arm, and a peerless work ethic would have been terrible any other season.
