"CAROLINA HAS devised a great offensive scheme to take advantage of Cam Newton's strengths. The Panthers run the ball with DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, and they run the ball with Newton. It's a three-headed attack and pretty awesome, if you ask me.

They're going to score more points in 2012 because Newton has a year under his belt in the system. His growth will improve the numbers of the pass catchers, especially tight end Greg Olsen. Newton will know how to check down better and be able to find Olsen more. Can you tell I'm high on Newton?

Steve Smith will be Newton's go-to guy again. He may be getting old, but he can catch the ball behind the line of scrimmage and turn it into a touchdown. That's what makes him dangerous. The only issue with him is the constant concern about injury.

The other receiver, Brandon LaFell, is turning into a player. Newton got comfortable throwing to him last year, so defenses have to deal with him now. The team's drafting of Joe Adams may mean that LaFell moves to the outside in three-receiver sets.

Newton kills teams running and throwing. He's the one running the ball in the red zone now and thus is taking away carries from Williams and Stewart. Accordingly I wouldn't expect either of those backs to put up big numbers, and now they also have to deal with Mike Tolbert, who's a fullback with some running ability."

smith is definitely not an injury concern anymore than any other player 30 or older is, and the comments on Tolbert make me think the writer doesn't really know too much about the panthers. nothing to see here for anyone who follows the team avidly, but for the casual observer or fans of other teams it's good enough.

Hmmm, i dont think that is written by an journalist... but Sean Payton talking about how we need to be worried about his bounty on SS.

ummmm...smitty gets injured a lot. he did fine last year, but more often than not he's going to get hurt at some point. he's only gone two seasons playing all games.

the dude hits hard and he takes some incredibly big hits. as tough as he is, there is always a concern about him getting hurt. let's not make the mistake that his healthy year last year was the norm.

He hasn't missed tons of games bc of them....but he has broken 3 bones since 2004. Also had a hammy hold him back one year. Wouldn't call him an iron man....and getting older increases his odds

It just doesn't seem like Smith is at any greater risk than some of our other key guys, ex. Jordan Gross or Chris Gamble.

But he is small and plays like he's had too many Red Bulls, so I guess the comment makes some sense.

I think most of these comments are generalities and while there may be some truth and rationale behind it you have to take it with a grain of salt. I don't think there is enough time and or effort to do in depth reporting. The worst I've seen so far is pro football talk weekly preview mag. Panthers havea15 game schedule as they omitted the first game against the bucs.

i don't think it will be much of a game either. easy mistake.

      100%. That's why in another thread I said despite my interest in Saturday's game and our potential playoff appearance, I am more anxious about what we are going to do this off-season. I want to celebrate our success, but at the same time, it feels kind of empty because we don't really "belong" in the situation we are in. Maybe that helps the FO have a greater sense of urgency seeing how winnable our division really is. I have little faith that we won't be rolling with BY for 17 games next year and that is a very depressing thought.

      And CMC or at least the late 2nd (best pick). Really, it was Bryce and DJ Johnson for 2024 2nd, 2023 pick 9, 2024 pick 1, DJ Moore and CMC. That’s the complete trade. Lol at how stupid Fitterer was. We’d have contending talent if we’d just traded Burns to the Rams and sat tight for Maye or Williams in 2024. I mean you see the Bears winning the much tougher NFC North and the Pats winning the AFC East and we’d have CMC for fun. Jalen Carter next to Brown and Verse for Burns, etc. God forbid we didn’t go XL and Brooks in 2024 and got McConkey to go with Tet/Coker and got Frazier as our stud C. It was all there laid out for us to dominate the NFCS for a decade. We just said nah, let’s do it the hard way.
