Of all people CRA found this nugget.

So this topic is finally dead!!!

Nothing guaranteed for Williams after this year...which I didn't know.

http://www.nfl.com/n...arolina-panther

One look at Williams' five-year, $43 million contract, Cam Newton's involvement in the running game (70 designed running plays in 2012, including 33 in the red zone, according to Football Outsiders Almanac 2012) and the arrival of Mike Tolbert on a four-year, $10 million contract this offseason casts doubt over Stewart's long-term future with the team, but a return is not impossible.

After this season, none of the three years and $18 million remaining on Williams' is guaranteed. With Williams turning 30 next April, the Panthers could release the older back and go with Stewart, who doesn't turn 26 until next March.

So sorry for making another thread on this topic but this needed exposure for everyone to see.

Still has cap impacts...

http://www.spotrac.c...ngelo-williams/

Cool site (FYI- topic and issue aside, this site has all the contracts)

familiar with that site but not always accurate. If we cut him there will not be an impact whatsoever. only guaranteed money left would hit the cap and according to that NFL.COM article theres no guaranteed money left after this year.

That is not my understanding....maybe someone more educated on it can explain. This issue aside I would like to know.

I was always told despite getting his signing bonus upfront...from a cap aspect they pro rate it over the course of the contract. So you take a signing bonus for example, divide it by the length of the contract and apply that for each year.

So he would have a pretty nice cap hit if that occurred

Who gives a fug about this stuff? It's not our money and it's not our job. I trust the people we have in charge, they do a very good job.

Stewart will be a starting in 2013 and I think Williams will be traded for a mid round pick. Stewart is an elite talent and you cannot let him go. Williams will be 30 and past his prime. Easy decision to make.

We wont tag Stewart and have Williams at the same time... Paying almost $25 million for 3 RBs is insane. Especially with Cam Newton under center.

F u c k that. Why would we cut one of our best offensive weapons? Over money?! C'mon man.

I think all ya'll need is a healthy dosage of DeAngelo Williams highlights to remind you what this man has done for our organization and why we love him.

    • The same folks crying about the OL right now were crying about it in 2023 too. We have tied up over 100 million dollars in two interior olinemen alone. We've invested multiple first and second round picks in the offense. We hired an offensive minded head coach. This is an offensive team. The offense needs to produce or people need to be replaced.
    • This is the same place that has ridiculed and blasted Caleb Williams at every opportunity he has his team sitting at 10-4 in the same NFC that the Panthers are competing in. And their division in the NFC North is as or more competitive as our division. Yet from the same people who have very high standards for Williams we get every excuse imaginable for the smallest starting QB in the league even when he and his team continue to disappoint when the pressure is on. You lot aren't any less inconsistent than anyone else.
    • The Panthers are 9th in cap spent on offense this year.  However next season is already a different story  The Panthers as it stands right now will be 18th in cap spent on offense and 8th in cap spent on defense  The Panthers are currently set to spend more on defense next year than they are on offense this season Guys like Jaycee and Moehrig cap numbers take a big jump. Wharton has a massive cap hit   Jaycee Moehrig and Wharton in 2025 The same 3 in 2026 So this same defense as it stands right now will cost more in 2026 than this offense does right now… Got anything else you want to try?
