Time to confess about the 2011 draft

I wanted Marcell Dareus or PP I felt like either one of them could have did more for our team at the time. But like others I'm glad I was wrong!!

I wanted nothin to do with Cam, but there were plenty of people here who did. I wanted Darius, Peterson or Green.

As someone else said, I'll admit to being wrong and on this occasion I'm glad I was.

The more and more the media hated on Cam, the more and more I really wanted Cam... Especially after reading borderline articles or comments around the web. I never really followed the draft as much as I did last year, mainly because we had the 1st pick... I came to the conclusion that Cam was going to be a beast after watching a lot of his college highlights (dont really follow college football a lot) , but I thought he would really struggle for a 1 or 2 before he got a hang of the NFL... I mean anything better then Jimmy's 2010 year would have been a blessing. But I didnt think we were going to pick him, so I wanted Marcell Darius or PP if we didn't get Cam.

Who I didnt want, Blaine Gabbert (Jimmy Clausen 2.0), Andy Dalton, Ponder or Mallet..... I was sure all these guys were for sure bust. Gabbert for sure is going to be a bust. and Dalton is pretty good, the jury is still out on Mallet and Ponder (he had bright spots and not so bright spots last year IMO)...

I wanted Cam all the way. Didn't know he would be so good so soon but given his upside it was a no brainer. I wanted Kuechly this year so when the thread comes out next year once Luke is a beast this year about who we wanted, I will be on the record.

I'll admit after luck checked out I did too untill draft day. I had no clue what to do and was assuming we would T

try to trade down.

In sure glad we got cam though!

I felt that we would draft Luck, but when he decided to stay, I really wanted Cam...but I didn't think that we would draft him. Really glad we did.

Dareus, but I've been screaming for d-line, particularly defensive tackle help, for years. Ever since we traded Jenkins.

I rarely post much but I wanted Cam Newton. All the other guys weren't worthy of being number 1.

I was in this same boat. I thought that we should take a chance on Cam, and really didn't see much of any other choice especially when the rookie wage scale was hammered out. I didn't see the unwarranted comparisons to certain busted QBs that shall remain nameless. On some level, I wanted the Panthers to draft Newton just so all his detractors and haters would STFU about so many things (the least of which was Chris Nawrocki's bullshit, and the outright dismissal of Warren Moon's heartfelt thoughts on the way Cam was being treated in the media).

Ok lets fess up guys.....back after we all found out that Andrew Luck was staying another year in college a huge debate was sparked and it was heated and riddled with insults about who we should draft. I dont remember anyone saying they wanted Cam. At the top of the list was Nick Fairley, AJ Green, Marcel Dareus, Patrick Peterson and others.

I am ashamed to say I was screaming and talking trash to people who thought we needed a WR and I was proclaiming we would draft Nick Fairley. I am really ashamed because I listened to the NFL talking heads instead of going with my own better judgement. I googled Cam and watched his highlights during the summer of 2010 when Cam was going through his controversy. I remember calling my brother saying I would rather have him than Andrew Luck. Then I listened to all the scouts and thought Luck could walk on water and assumed these professional anaylist knew what they were talking about when they dissed Cam.

After he was drafted I went all in since I am a huge homer and overly optimistic and it finally worked out. I am still shocked at most fans here on the huddle talking about 9-7 and 10-6. that is unacceptable.

anyway.....time to fess up know it alls....................who was your guy in the 2011 draft class? and dont front because it can be dug up.

I wanted Cam. So did panthers55. I think we both were on that train early....just like Luke. We may be wrong about a lot (or maybe just I am).....but we have nailed our picks recently and did it before a they developed much of a following.

People are suprised their non educated opiniong was wrong? People here are not scouts, most with a knowledge based of Madden and there is nothing wrong about jsut cheerleading for someone. Saying you're wrong and feeling false about hindsight is like cheering for the panthers to win and when they lose, admin you're wrong for cheering for the panthers.It's jsut more complex than that.

I liked Green and I still like him a lot. No one, not even Cam doubters did not recognize Cam's cieling, and that is what I liked most about Cam pre-draft and it is still what I like most about him now. None of it really matters now though, Cam is a panther.

I thought Green was the best player in the draft and wanted him, but I got behind Cam pretty quickly because Clausen sucked and we needed a quarterback. I'm not going to lie: I talked myself into pretty much any of the top prospects in the draft besides Blaine Gabbert.

I was pretty proud of my whole "no andrew luck is not the end of the world" stance, though.
