Who picks Matt Barkley next year?

I'm gonna go with a team nobody's mentioned yet...the Bucs.

There's a good chance they look for another quarterback. Freeman is not good and they'll finally realize it this year.

That's a pretty bold statement. They went and got him Jackson and the TE from the Colts, you don't think he can be serviceable?

He's average to me, but I don't think he sucks that bad.

I'm just not impressed. Had a good year in 2010 but struggled terribly at times last year. Granted, he was in a bad spot with a pathetic defense. I don't think he's the worst quarterback in the league but he's in the bottom 1/2 of starters in my opinion. I don't think the Bucs will be a considerably better team this year, regardless of the improved defense, Carl Nicks, V Jax, etc. Maybe 6-10 at best. Two years in a row in the cellar and you start looking for a new quarterback in this league. I definitely think he can be serviceable, in the sense that Matt Cassell and Ryan Fitzpatrick are serviceable. But his contract is coming up and they'll have to make a decision - Freeman or competition? If the Bucs contend for a playoff spot this is all irrelevant. But I don't think they will come close and we'll be discussing the Bucs as a team considering a quarterback early in the draft next offseason.

not sure who they can draft, but i wouldn't be a bit surprised if the bucs did draft a QB in the first or maybe second round just because new HC is going to want his guy behind center, not the previous HCs guy.

it all depends on what schiano wants in a QB, tho. he seems like a guy that wants a good old fashioned game manager who stands in the pocket. he doesn't seem interested in any potential dual threat guy.

freeman doesn't necessarily have to light it up this year. he has to play not to lose and keep the ball safe. he has to be mistake free or freeman will be a free man come next year (or whenever his contract is up).

No TD in a loss to Stanford.

Told ya, Clausen 2.0

Way to read the stat line and make baseless and asinine assumptions. Anybody who actually WATCHED that game last night would know Barkley was far from the problem. He had zero time to stand in the pocket and find open receivers last night. The offensive line was putrid which made the playcalling awful as well....

First off, this next QB class really isn't that good and Thomas may not even declare and stay a Hokie another season (probably be the smart move considering his play)..Wilson, Barkley, and Jones..meh. The top pick won't be a QB at the current rate

If Weeden keeps showing more they may not go Barkley even if the Browns have the first pick

Same with Tannehill and the Dolphins

My complete guess that means nothing:

Tyler Wilson/Landry Jones/Barkley to KC, Vikings, or Zona, Logan Thomas to the Raiders (if he goes)

    • If we don't go OT, we will regret it.  What bothers me?  Are we going to get a starting-caliber OT at 19?  I think the draft is solid at OT, and the more I read up and watch video, the more I watch Lomu, the more I want him.   I see Freeling as a RT who needs some work in run blocking (since we need to run first, maybe not a good fit) and I see Proctor ending up as a Guard.  After Lomu (assuming Mouigia and fanu are gone), I think we wait until round 2.  In round 2, there are about 3-4 I like (Zuhn--good pass blocker and VERY underrated right now; Tiernan is a very good pass blocker as is Miller from Clemson, but both are not good in the run game.  Max Ixxxxx from Ariz St is impressive too---technically, there is not a of difference in these second tier guys--good in pass pro, need work in the run game.   If we wait until round 2 for an OT, we probably need to sign Nijman and start him early.   I almost think this is what we should do if Lomu is gone.  There is a big dropoff after him, imo, and I think we'd get better value if a stud ILB or edge is there.  Someone like TJ Parker Clemson makes sense. If Lomu is gone, trading back might be the play.
    • And what is x gunna help with except show him what not to do. Plus for the first year and a half he was just an obstacle
    • I understand that some people want WR. I am solidly against using yet another high pick there. Coker is pretty good and we used No picks on him.  What I think we really need at WR is a little bit of a Smitty lite. It is ridiculous to say let’s get a Smitty because you just can’t do that, but someone not tall and long striding but more in his mold. I think we’d have a pretty well rounded group.    Looking at tackle, with replacing Moton looming, it just seems like the no brainer.  You fill in Icky short term. Depending on how he recovers, and how the new guy plays, you go from there. A tackle at 19 is most likely either a LOT, a ROT, or a big talented guard, at worst. We will need all three in the next couple of years.  I would love to have a stud ILB be there at 19 but the OL is the responsible thing to do I believe.
