Rob Ryan refers to Panther as running "some sort of junior high offense"

On NFLN they're talking about we're not the only team who's been running the "read option" as a base. Washington runs some of it, and Minnesota has run it. They even talked about how the "read option" has hurt Adrian Peterson's performance and limited him this season. It made me wonder why ANYONE would run it if it isnt getting great results this season.

We were the best running team last year.....Washington leads in TDs and is 2nd in ypc.

So using it works. That as your sole identity? Not so much

Washington also uses a more conventional zone stretch run offense that leads to PA roll outs, misdirections, etc.

I don't even understand how Minnesota uses it. Wtf is Christian Ponder running the spread option for? Maybe they're using it to try and get Percy Harvin the ball in different ways.

It's obviously not an offense that's going to work. Can it work sometimes? Absolutely. It definitely should not be your base offense, though. It's not confusing anyone, and it's not going to work for much longer on any team.

Chud knows that Ryan assumes that we will double down on the option plays because Ryan knows that Chud thinks that Ryan thinks that we will have abandoned the option. Knowing this, Chud will think that running a pro style offense is so crazy that it just might work.

I see what you did there.... kinda like the poison scene in "Princess Bride"

Man in Black: You're trying to trick me into giving away something. It won't work.

Vizzini: IT HAS WORKED! YOU'VE GIVEN EVERYTHING AWAY! I KNOW WHERE THE POISON IS!

Man in Black: Then make your choice.

Vizzini: I will, and I choose - What in the world can that be?

Man in Black: [Vizzini gestures up and away from the table. Roberts looks. Vizzini swaps the goblets]

Man in Black: What? Where? I don't see anything.

Vizzini: Well, I- I could have sworn I saw something. No matter. First, let's drink. Me from my glass, and you from yours.

Man in Black, Vizzini: [Vizzini and the Man in Black drink]

Man in Black: You guessed wrong.

Vizzini: You only think I guessed wrong! That's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line"! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha...

Vizzini: [Vizzini stops suddenly, his smile frozen on his face and falls to the ground dead]

Buttercup: And to think, all that time it was your cup that was poisoned.

Man in Black: They were both poisoned. I spent the last few years building up an immunity to iocane powder.

RG3 is the only one having significant success with the read option as a regular staple of offense this year, in part b/c he's a rookie and teams still don't have his tendencies down. Nor do they have a complete grasp on what Shannhan is doing from play to play.

They will in year two.

That's the problem now... Teams have studied Cam and our offense for a full year and Chud has made no adjustments aside from trying to place a HUGE emphasis on the read option as a base package, which makes no sense. I really wish Cam would just tell Chud to F off and start slinging it.

It's up to Chud today whether he wants to be known for his high school offense or play big boy ball. He's the one holding us back...
