Twenty Points

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

In three of this team's five losses to date, the defense has managed to hold opposing offenses to less than 20 points.

That means all three of those games could have been victories had the offense that was supposed to be 'explosive' this season been able to manage just two touchdowns and two field goals.

The defense kept opposing teams down enough that just one score per quarter would have been sufficient for a record of 4-2 at this point. And this despite their generally being on the field for way longer than they ought to be.

Lord knows the defense certainly has it's own issues, but watching us play last year, I never would have imagined that 16 to 19 points would have been enough to beat us this season.

Sad :(

This season is much more painful than the last.

At least last season we KNEW we would be improved the next year. We KNEW Cam was gonna take that next step. We KNEW that Chud was going to continue to be creative and original with his playcalling. We KNEW Beason was gonna come back and lead our defense.

This year, I don't know what to think about the future. Rivera is most likely on his way out, Cam has plateaued if not regressed, Chud is a heaping pile of crap. Beason seems like he's done for good.

Just a sad, sad situation all around. A ton of uncertainty around a team that "should've" taken that next step.

Yep. Our Defense has improved from last season to this season. Unfortunately, our Offense has completely poo it's pants. Most of the blame probably goes on the Offensive Coordinator, but ultimately the HC should have set his ass straight because now this is probably their last season and we are left looking for a coaching staff that can get poo done within two damn years.

I've been making the same points Scot.

That's what is so frustrating with our team... It's disheartening, to say the least.

The offense is the problem. The defense, minus the Giants game, has been solid and with Luke and TD in there full-time, it has been completely stabilized, making us good enough to win on that side of the ball.

And to come on here and read people trashing Newton is just mind boggling to me. He has been the only reason this horrible offense has had ANY production. The RBs aren't getting legitimate chances to contribute thanks to horrible playcalls and limited legitimate touches. The WRs don't get much of a chance either b/c penalties and poor playcalling set us up on long downs early and we can't get ourselves out of it - often resulting in 3 and outs. To boot, Cam is still making incredible, gamebreaking type plays, we just can't hold the ball long enough to sustain it... And most of his plays are coming from the non-gimmicky bases (under center, no read option).

IMO, it shows that he has actually made progress, but the playcalling and lack of balance make it appear to the casual fan that he has regressed. It's really hard to see him and the rest of our playmakers be bogged down because of horrible coaching.

    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
    • Well, seeing as we play the Lions at home this year, pretty sure that rumor isn't true.
    • Totally possible imo, I also caught that snippet from Morgan where he said “If” we sign him. The lack of competition says otherwise tho 🤷‍♂️
