3 names in the grapevine for the GM job

yeah, from a florio written piece so take it for what it's worth...still interesting.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/11/22/accorsi-could-be-going-young-with-his-g-m-recommendation-in-carolina/

Former Giants and Colts G.M. Ernie Accorsi has been hired to help Panthers owner Jerry Richardson find the franchise’s next General Manager. The buzz in league circles is that Accorsi will recommend going with a younger option.

So far, three names have made their way onto the grapevine: former 49ers G.M. Scot McCloughan, Ravens assistant G.M. Eric DeCosta, and Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross.

DeCosta has moved in recent years to the top of the “A” list for future/eventual General Managers. The contract he signed earlier this year, however, reportedly prevents him from leaving, in exchange for paying him like a G.M.

.

.

.

But that’s all part of the process. In the end, Accorsi will make his recommendation to Richardson. And Richardson likely will accept it. Otherwise, why hire Accorsi in the first place?

i included decosta's paragraph in there just for clarity's sake. there is a little more on ross (which we all pretty much know about) and mccloughan (which i'm not all that familiar with) in the article.

considering the direction that accorsi helped the falcons go, i think it's safe to assume that accorsi will recommend a youthful option for the GM job here as well.

It's Thanksgiving you fugging goon.

Anyway, who is the second bust behind Balmer? Smith, Crabtree and Iupati are all starters and keys in their team's success.

If these are truly names that are surfacing from Acorsi's work than I would think these are people who are interested in making a move. The level of vetting that Acorsi would do would filter out those who would not be interested.

That suggests these names aren't a reflection of Acorsi's work and just general speculation.

For where he was drafted many would say Crabtree hasn't lived up to the billing.

That said at the time he was probably the right pick..

This talk of a "moneyball" approach makes me a bit nervous, as well as his one time comment that he would never pay big money to Guards.

He may not want to pay them, but drafting Iupati in the first before the rookie wage scale shines a little light of that.

When judging Crabtree you really have to take into account the QB situation before Harbaugh and the fact that they still rely heavily on the run. I'm not his biggest fan, but I could see him as a stud in a better O, like NO, GB, Denver, etc.

    • Another layer to that is Ive seen Seattle has been in the market for CB help this off-season.   Michael had a higher PFF grade than Horn who got 15 games this season. He wants to be here too, that's a huge bonus for any 5 win team that had awful pass rush.  The 7th rounder Michael Barrett didn't last long on Seattle, he was cut before the season I think and ended up on browns PS. He's already been on 5.......5 teams within one year.......
    • You have gave the board some recent gold via posting. Heres my poor attempt at the truthful play-by-play of the time during post- I pulled out the old laptop to do my shitposting and check on websites. Open the huddle and see this new thread. Open thread and read CRAs post, {inner thinking, oooOOooo this is my lane and I got this}. Make sure not to scroll even to the 2nd post. 23% of current neurons still firing start up and two names appear- Captain and Josh....... about another 43 seconds past "O GOD" it's July 4th weekend and I got medicine to pick up. (If the laptop didn't give away my aging, the meds should...) I need to split, think long panther careers and the hint-  Ryan Kalil was a late 2nd and Pro bowls(even all-pros too) he's got to be OLman and Mikie Minter is among the all-time Panthers career leaders. Drop my post. Scramble to get keys, wallet, and phone. Check my phone- its 17% battery.....fug I now have to raw dog the pickup line and put the phone on charge.... Flip flops, sweat ringed filled hat, and shades acquired. Get in my pos rav4 and think about not running the A/C. Pull out the drive way and reach the 1st stop light, A/C is wide open. I check my shirt to see if there's any new stains on my house shirt, bush off the Bojangles salt that I see.... Neurons re-fire and focus on the comments CRA made that no one would get this....... Dang IT, that means it isn't Ryan Kalil or Mike Minter! CVS is close, but I know its impossible I get back withing 10 minutes to change my post and my phone is on the charger. {Think you monkey, at one point you were a draft nerd}. Reach the CVS line, by some grace its not 5 cars deep during 5 o'clock traffic hell. Im second in line after the car in front of me both turn in, they have to go back and forth to line up while Im a pro for that geometry. Neurons finally reach peak performance as Ive re-thought draft classes. Think obscure and unknown 7th rounders with long careers. Some Sunday/Monday night member berry fell out of my Melon, Will montgomery during the players intros for washington. I thought he out of the league and was shocked to see him still playing around the 2015 years. I do a goggle background check and that refreshed memory. Pick up the meds and enjoy the sweet smelling cool CVS air. Driving back and check in on one of the local bums at the big stop light, wow he's got a new fancy rug. Think about all the old food I got and need to start giving it away and rethink it. Reach home and post a follow up and I know Minter is wrong too, I check the draft history and see Robert Mcclain. Too late, but that would have been my guess....open CRAs link and get "upset" at the DBs name.
    • THANKS my guy! Keeping up with this threads theme, if I view a thread and there's only 20 posts and some time passes. If I see there's one new post and read the name; @Dave Gettleman's Shortsis among the chosen few that I will reopen that thread just to see what you posted.    Thanks again, plus not just a scout, thats scotty mccloughans son?!?!? If not for the deep claws of booze, scotty is among the best talent finders this league has recently had. Last I heard he ran a consulting business. Caden could be one of those who's on a early path to being a GM in the future. I was a big fan of his dad, dam shame about booze demon ruining his career.
