Adam Caplan article on Potential GM's

Tom Gamble worked as a part time scout for the Carolina Panthers.

During which era? Because the 05 draft was horrible, 09 was 2010, if he worked under hurney I don't want him. Just my opinion.

I rather take Ross.

Edit:

And I just scrolled down and found out when. Ok, I retract my previous statement. Ross or Gamble are fine with me. Actually any of those three would be fine.

There's about a dozen more in the article, and a lot more information than I included in the first post.

Thank you.

I don't know a lot about any of them, but I would like to see them hire someone that has found recent success and comes from a winning franchise. There is a lot more to add to this franchise than just talent. We need a guy that comes from a franchise that has experienced winning and knows how to find players that fit that pedigree.

Where does Accorsi have ties directly with Marc Ross? Marc Ross wasn't brought into the Giants' organization until after Accorsi had retired and Jerry Reese was hired. Sure, there is the fact that they both know the Maras, Giants' front office, etc. But there is no direct "he-worked-for-Accorsi" relationship.

Also, to add to this conversation, if we're looking specifically at that list (and my oh my what an awesome list it is) I think the names that really pop off that list are Tom Gamble (who is an incredible candidate), David Caldwell (even though he's a Falcons guy, he's part of the success that Thomas Dmitroff has had), and Alonzo Highsmith (who has been part of an incredible Packers' scouting/drafting squad).

Gamble sounds like the best candidate to me but no Accorsi ties probably means he won't be our guy.

His ties to Polian may actually work against him in this case... :(

i've heard that richardson and polian actually get along. they just don't work well together or something...just rumor, though. i've heard a lot of complaints about polian from former co-workers who didn't like his way of running things. anyways, polian lives in lake norman, i believe.

to be honest i don't know what to think of gamble's relationship with polian and how it would effect the job or he is even on accorsi's radar. supposedly accorsi will only recommend guys he has first hand knowledge of so i respect that. i'm just wondering/hoping that gamble and accorsi have crossed paths somewhere along the way.

if not, tho, and cross is his guy, i'm totally fine with that.

Where exactly did you hear that? It was my impression that he would find the right guy, regardless of his affiliation to that person, like he did with Dimitroff in Atlanta.

they've known each other a long time.

Early in his career as an NFL scout, he turned up at the combine in Indianapolis with hair much longer than he wears it now. Former New York Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi, a longtime family friend, pretended he didn't recognize Dimitroff.

"I'm sitting in the stands and he comes up to me and says, 'Hi, Mr. Accorsi?' I said, 'Who are you?'" Accorsi recalled, chuckling at the memory. "I knew who he was, but I made him say, 'I'm Thomas Dimitroff Jr.' I told him, 'Cut your hair. Your dad wouldn't be too crazy about this.' So the next year, when he came up to me at the combine, he had cut his hair. Not a lot, but I told him that he looked OK."

Accorsi was actually the one who recommended Dimitroff when Atlanta owner Arthur Blank went looking for a new GM after the miserable 2007 season.

dimitroff's dad was a scout for the browns when accorsi was the GM. accorsi was also the one who hired belichek in cleveland and from what i've heard they've always stayed in contact with each other so accorsi was familiar with what dimitroff had been doing with the pats.

i've also heard from other places that accorsi would rather recommend someone that he knows and is familiar with. most likely would be someone he works with, but i think it's important that he knows first hand who it is and what they've done.

personally, i respect that and fortunately, as long as he's been in the league and as big as his circle of influence is in the league, it's not like it's a pretty small circle.

i have read several things that have said as much and i think some of it has been posted in here but i'm too lazy to find it.

    • Darrell Jackson would be a fantastic pickup for us, I think he could replace 80% of what A’Shawn gave us last year. With more passing rush upside going forward in the future, I’m a big proponent of large framed defensive tackles. Pairing Derrick Brown with another 6’5 35inch arm length DT would be so fun to watch. Let’s continue being huge in the middle, allow our linebackers to flow to the ball uninterrupted.
    • Fully agree that the best thing to do is ignore them, which takes a away their thrill of thinking they got to you.
    • I agree with you on the pick of Thienemen in the first. I think he will still be there and he's a smart, fast and sturdy player. He's who we need back there. In the second, I like Rodriguez over Golday. I agree that off the ball linebackers are desperately needed here, even with our great FA pick up. I think with our third pick, we're going to dip into OT territory instead of the D-line. While I agree that we need another disruptor at the point of attack that is stout enough to just stonewall a center and a guard at the same time, we've got a shaky and expensive O-line at the present that is just about to age out of the game. I think we snag Blake Miller out of Clemson here and give him a year behind Moton to learn and put some weight and strength on. He can also jump right in and play right guard at any time. Also, and this might sound crazy, but anyone who has put up with multiple seasons at Clemson will be able to take the heat and humidity of training camp at the start of the season and early games against the NFCSouth.  Beyond that, your guess is as good as mine. We do need that QB for competition and realistically to study for back-up. Luke Altmyer out of Illinois seems to fit the mold of the point guard type QB that they want from Bryce. That'd make an apples to apples situation that could make coaching and game planning easy. On the other hand North Dakota State's Cole Payton could be an intriguing choice as well as a big dual threat guy. Both could be there for our fourth pick or both could be gone. Will QBs continue to slide this season like last? Who knows?
