Cam Setting Records

Gallagher

Recommended Posts

Cam has thrown 152 passes without an interception. This is a franchise record.

For posterity, this is more passes without an interception than: Kerry Collins, Steve Beuerlein, Chris Weinke, Matt Lytle, Randy Fasani, Rodney Peete, Jake Delhomme, Vinny Testaverde, David Carr, Matt Moore, Brian St. Pierre or Jimmy Clausen.

And people say he has trouble with his decision making and accuracy.

It's actually the longest active streak in the NFL right now.

Steve Young's longest streak w/o pick was 185. Montana's was 154. Aaron Rodgers 181. Those are the only three I can find sans Tom Brady, which Cam Newton won't even come close to cracking unless he gets quite lucky and improves tenfold (because, while he is very good, it takes quite the QB to go that long without a pick and even Brady got a bit lucky).

Hey is also roughly 350-400 yards from passing Peyton Manning for the most passing yards in a QB's first 2 seasons ever (although Luck will likely have a good shot at breaking that record next year).

He is a heckuva player and I can't wait to see him excel when the games matter.

Already the best QB in franchise history.

I wouldn't go that far yet. He needs to lead some quality winning seasons and have a couple of Rams double overtime moments to surpass Delhomme. Hard to beat out Jake after only two seasons. After its all said and done I'll probably agree if he can start leading us to some winning seasons. But right now I think it's two early for that.

You'd have to be blind to not think he has problems with accuracy. He has gotten a lot better about his decision making the latter half of the year, but as far as accuracy.....there is room for improvement to say the least.

he unquestionably still chucks some high balls and makes questionable decisions at times. that screen pass TD to williams was a toss-up situation that finally broke our way for once but it could have just easily been a tipped INT which would have swung the early momentum back hard to the chargers.

either way the improvement is palpable and encouraging. hopefully we'll end the year on a high note and it'll carry over.

I think consistency is his problem. He can make every throw, and be as accurate as any one in the league. Now, when he does it 60 - 70 percent of the time... then he'll truly be elite.

Yeah, maybe he'll learn to be as accurate as, say, Eli Manning one day.

Or John Elway.

    • Yuck.  I still kind of like Herbert but these playoff performances are rough....
    • I feel like this was the case with River and McDermott defenses as well, we just had the jimmies and the joes to overcome these deficiencies with all pro players at edge and linebacker positions.  Even then, was extremely frustrated in 2015 when we'd let team come back from 20+ pt deficits playing prevent only to barely win at the end.
    • We need to move on soon and just use Bryce as a bridge to find our next guy. I'd like to see how this offense works with Canales hand picking his own guy. Bryce holds this offense back a lot considering you draft the first pick to carry your team and be your best player. We invested heavily for Bryce and need everything to go right just to have him look like a solid game manager sometimes. When he plays well he can look decent or mid, but when he plays bad he looks like a bottom 5 qb in league (backups included). It's not worth it, especially if we need to pay him soon, which means we have to skimp all over the roster. If the defenses don't hand it to us on a silver platter Atlanta style then we struggle big time. Defenses don't respect the offense at all. With Cam we could have the worst offensive talent and I'd still think we had a shot in any game we played. If Bryce is facing a 3rd and 10 I pretty much wave the white flag and don't think we can make that first down.
