Does everyone think Gettleman is smoke screening by saying BPA

Because if they don't think he is smoke screening and is serious, then why is every mock draft and nearly every post talking about our needs instead of BPA. If we are taking the BPA regardless of need, then we will take the highest rated player on our board regardless of need, period.

The whole we need line help or need a WR will be irrelevent. If a DE projected at 6 for example is available at 14 and there are no other players rated higher who have dropped, then we will take him regardless of who else is out there or what our needs are??

So is Gettleman serious about BPA regardless of position or will it be the BPA at a position of need, or something else??

I brought this up the other day P55. I was giving the hypothetical of Barkley or Geno dropping to our pick and say we have them as BPA.

Do we draft a QB? Seems like a wasted pick

What if the BPA is a RB in the second round. Do we invest in another RB? Or ILB? etc.

I think you have to strike a balance. BPA at a position of need unless the value on a player is too high to pass on. But that wouldn't likely happen in the first round. That would be a situation where you may have a second round grade on a guy still around in the 4th or something like that.

So to answer your question I think there has to be a balance of sorts. But who knows what Gettleman is going to do. We will find out in a couple of months

Based on what Gettleman says about big men and touchdown scorers, we will take the BPA out of D-line, O-line, and WR... don't see us taking Vacarro if he is there. So here's to hoping Star, Warmack, or Patterson make it to 14. That would be a terrific decision to have to make.

I believe in this case, he means it. If there is a pass rusher there, we'll more than likely take him. For example sasy Ziggy ansah, if he's there. I wouldn't put it past him to pull the trigger.

I don't believe it will be the case after the 1st round though.

Need doesn't shape BPA, that is the point of true BPA. You pick the BPA regardless of position or need,

As for mocks looking at needs, I guess that is why they usually get our pick wrong outside of Newton,

True BPA is rare. Need distorts it in regards how NFL teams actually draft using BPA in early rounds.

Vikings wouldn't draft a RB in round 1 if they thought a RB was clearly the best player. Teams simply have positions/players they just don't put on there big board early on. NFL teams have flat out shown there boards before and certain guys at the top don't even get ranked on their board bc of position

Need helped turn Cam into our BPA

Last 6 years...Giants drafted 6 DBs in first 3 rounds. A couple 1st rounders.

We aren't talking about the vikings or even about us in the past. Hurney drafted BPA at a position of need. The question is do we go purely with BPA regardless of need as he said he would or do we go BPA at a position of need. From your response I will infer that you think it will be BPA at a position of need. There isn't a right or wrong answer until the draft and there is nothing to argue about. So stop with the back and forth.

I suspect unless it were the next Andrew Luck at which point we would likely trade it away, we wouldn't go quarterback. They would simply say they had a player ranked higher on their board who magically would be at a position of need.

IMO, QB and RB are the only two positions we would pass on this year. So we very well could take BPA in the first two rounds. Regardless of position. And as long as the kid can make plays, I will be a happy camper.

This is not a top heavy class by any stretch, but there is plenty of talent. Hit with both our first two picks and it makes us a little better. If both those guys can make plays from the get go? We will definately be a better team.

Also, if we get a RG and a capable TE in FA, which is feasible, that would take some pressure off the draft, allowing a BPA scenario.

Ah hell, you can never have enough talent. Just draft talented players and we are a go.
