  1. 1. Which side of the ball will be better this season?

Rivera took the Bears' D to #1 when he was there, then took the Chargers' D from worst to first in 2 years... As long as Rivera doesnt acquire the Norv syndrome, which he could after spending a few years with him, our defense should be top 3 easily...

I think folks will be pleasantly surprised with the secondary. First of all a great front 7 will make any secondary look good. Secondly, there were a lot of guys who may end up as backups this year who got starting experience which is a huge bonus in the event some guys underperform or injuries occur. Finally, with the defensive line and linebackers stout against the run, the secondary can play pass first instead of biting on play action or having to constantly think run first which allowed receivers to get behind them. Overall I think our defense will be pretty good even considering who we have to play in our division.

His secondaries in SD and Chicago had more invested in them than his here.

I am certainly excited about the potential of the defense and fully expect us to finish ranked in the upper half of the league. (Top 16 for sure). Luke will continue to improve, and we are set at LB and DE. I just don't how long it will take Star and Kawann to get comfortable in the rotation.

My vote was for the offence to finish higher. (Top 8 or higher) I expect Cam's development to elevate to a new level this year especially with a more balanced offensive approach. I may be one of the few on this forum that feels OK about the WR's. Hoping Olsen has an awesome year as well. Somewhat concerned with the OL, but I think Cam's play could mask the issues long enough for them to jell as a unit.

It is not a given that Star and Short will struggle. All they are asked to do is their job to the best of their ability every play. They both have plenty of talent to translate into the NFL.

Also, they are not cornerstone DTs. Where they would see significant action. They are part of a rotation. They will, best case, see packages that best use their skills.

One of my biggest interest this year is how long does it take for Star to demand the double team? I truly believe, the teams that underestimate him are going to pay a price. Yeah, he is that good. And that Short kid? He is not far behind.

I say, We have one of, if not the best, 7 man rotations in the league. If you don't think opposing OCs haven't noticed, you may be a bandwagoner.

I don't have a prediction for either side's ranking solely because I don't particularly care about yardage gained or yardage yielded.  To me, while converting third and shorts is fine, football's chief objective should be to yield the opposing team's scoring as much as possible and in turn you score as much as you can.  There are consistency issues on both sides of the ball that I'd like to see get remedied, but that remains to be seen how well they'll be dealt with.

That, and I guess as much as Mr. Scott is the offensive line fan, I'm the defensive line fan--absolutely blew my mind when we double-dipped at DT and I can't wait to see those two kids in action.  Particularly Star--I need to look up some fitting Death Star quotes from SW to sprinkle in whenever he makes a play.

I certainly hope they don't struggle, (Star and Kawann), and I understand they will be rotational players. (I think I said that) I'm just not sure how quickly they will get comfortable playing at this level. Never had a doubt about their talent. I truly hope you are correct and the transition will be seamless, but just as you stated, that's not a given.

I absolutely think opposing OC's have noticed the potential talent in the front seven. I can't find where I said otherwise.

The last comment about me possibly being a bandwagoner. I honestly don't understand the point you are making. I am extremely excited about this defense and think the sky's the limit if everyone stays healthly and plays up to their potential.

I was actually trying to agree with you. I guess I did a bad job of it.

IMO, When you get, arguably, the two best DTs in the draft. Chances are good they are going to be good.

OC's are looking at our D and trying to figure out how to attack our secondary. They want nothing to do with our front 7. That is going to be huge. Getting teams out of their comfort zones. Are they going to change their philosophy just to avoid our front 7. If so, it helps us.

The Bandwagoner comment was aimed at those who just know our rookie DTs are going to struggle. They want to be excited, but they just can't bring themselves to do it. It was a small attempt at a dig against those who can't get past their fear of the past.

Sorry for the confusion.

I don't think you did a bad job of it. I had followed this forum for a while before I ever decided to start posting. Over time I watched the treatment and attacks newbies sometimes receive on this site, (Sometimes Deserved), so I'm sure I was overly defensive.

I appreciate the feedback. Go Panthers.

Not a problem. And welcome aboard. Confusion is easy in print. I blame the interwebz. But that is for a different thread.

The Huddlez is pretty balanced in that regard. You get treated as you treat. But, yeah, if you merit, we can be a brutal lot. lol But, if you've hung around for a while, you should pretty much know the drill.

Just sit back and enjoy the show. Both on the field, and here in Huddlezland.
