top dawg

Just gathering a little insight into our new second rounder.  Don't be surprised if he turns out to be just as prolific as many believe Star is going to be.

Just one of the several questions:

If you could compare your play to someone in the NFL, who would it be?

BJ Raji- Packers

Aha! Great expectations.

Kawann Short was just a three-star prospect ranked as No. 24 defensive tackle nationally and No. 6 player in Indiana by Scout.com coming out of high school, but a lot has changed since his high school days.  After a tremendous junior and senior year for the Boilermakers, Kawann is being labeled by some media outlets as the prize possession in the draft.  I have to agree with them, because of his motor and range.  This kid is a very solid run stuffer and has the wheels to penetrate the middle of the field.  I am a huge fan of Kawann and believe that Carolina Panthers could have the best defensive tackle in the draft.

How many teams were recruiting you coming out of high school and how did you make your decision?

Purdue was my first offer. I committed and then they all started coming after that… I always wanted to stay in state and Purdue was the best fit for me.

Who was your favorite NFL team growing up, and did you have a player you rooted for?

Bears, and Albert Haynesworth was the guy that I wanted to portray.

At your position, how do you break down film, please inform our readers what you look for when breaking down film?

I start off by watching key tendencies with the guys I am going against that game. I meet with my position coach one on one which is my choice.

Do you consider yourself a quiet leader or an outspoken role model?

I’m definitely a quiet leader.

If you could take one day back and erase it from your past what day would you erase?

None, they all happen for a reason.

Do you have any hobbies, if so tell the world what it is?

I usually shoot hoops in my spare time and hang out with the guys.

Who was the toughest player you have ever played against?

Travis Fredrick- Wisconsin.

What is the best accolade/award you have ever received from playing football?

The all American.

If it was your last meal, what would you eat?

Shrimp scampi.

Before the game, what song might I hear on your ipod?

Lil wayne- man I miss my dawg

Do you have any pre game rituals?

Smart water and my lil wayne song at least 5 times.

If you could pick out your biggest weakness what would it be?

Consistency.

If you could compare your play to someone in the NFL, who would it be?

BJ Raji- Packers

What is the most tragic event in your life that has happened and how did you bounce back?

When I had to bury my uncle the day of a game in high school. I just ran on the court and gave it my all and had a great game.

Everyone asks this question but I’m curious to know what will you buy first with your first NFL pay check?

I’m gonna buy my mother a new house.

If you could meet one person, dead or alive who would it be and why?

I would like to meet my father, he passed away when I as a couple months old.

Seems like a solid guy

Love that he would love to meet his father. I think that was an excellent answer and bodes well for us and his future as a Panther.

Cannot wait for training camp to get here. I think the rotation on the DLine will be infectious and competitive and with Luke, Beason and TD cheering them on, man, I am looking forward to this.
