Unneeded Players

Recommended Posts

I know there is constant reasons everyone wants to keep AE,Adams, Clausen, Fua, Pilares and Nakamura.  These guys are mistakes.  While we might not recover any money I don't believe any of them had guaranteed money.  If they did it wasn't much and worth letting go.

We have far too much talent on this team to keep players that are going to be jerseyless come game day.

We got lucky with Gaydosh, White and Lester.  These could be huge UDFA pick ups.  Depth that could really help us in the future.

While AE might be a keeper FINALLY the others have been nothing but a huge disappointment.  Would you rather hold onto a player that is never going to be anything but a one play per game player.  Maybe one play.

You do a good job drafting.  Someone has to go.  If I have a good UDFA rookie and a marginal 2nd year guy and I have one position.   That one year goes out the door.

Clausen is a mistake..  He didn't even dress at all in the past two seasons.

AE and Adams, we brought in others that play their position (Sadly we'll keep one of these guys)

Fua should see the writing on the wall.  In 2011 you gave the guy a break cause he was a rookie.  Last year he was a liability.  From all I have heard Gaydosh might be the steal of the UFDA market. (then again this is shorts....got it)

Pilares, is one of those players I really like but I just don't see us keeping him. There are better players.

And Finally Nakamura.. just a terrible signing.  I just dont see it.

What it boils down to me is we draft Best Player Available shouldn't we fill the latter part of our roster the same way?

It isn't just the best player but the best player at the best price for the position we are trying to fill.  AE is here because he is cheap at 880,000 if we keep him and if we cut him it will cost us 188,000 in dead cap space.  Still if we do cut him we save 700,000 in cap space. Which should be close to enough to sign whoever we will replace him with.  If we ends up being the 5th best receiver then we should keep him for this year.  But in order to get another contract he needs to show that he can make the catches and do the job and deserve to still be here.  Something he hasn't shown to this point.  But this is the time of the year when everything is lovely and we are filled with possibility instead of inevitability, hope reigns and we are afforded the luxury of optimism.  I am hopeful that this is the year for a lot of players and coaches to show up and fulfill their promise.

Lets see how that works out.....

If the release of McClain last year taught us anything, it's that no player is safe, drafted or not. Especially with a new GM, these guys have to perform ad show what they have to earn a spot. Sorry Joe Adams. And I had such high hopes for the kid because I got drunk off of his legendary play against Ten...

I would def like to drop one to keep gaydosh or other d-lineman, with the defensive rotation we are goin with, you kno he will get on the field and get a chance to contribute. Where as white and Lester won't get as many chances. But then again I say, I trust gett. Man, it feels good to say that and mean it.

Not saying i agree or disagree...but if you put Pilares on a list why keep Gettis off it?

In realize Gettis has the super fan club....but while he has speed I would argue Pilares is more diverse of a player

For me, there are a few players down on the depth chart that i really think could be good players. I would really want the panthers to keep them, knowing that they probably wouldnt play much.

The thing is, I also would like to see them go to another team, just to get a shot at maybe being a starter. If ya really like a player and he gets cut, try and look at it from the perspective of that player will be able to seek the best fit and ultimatly have the opertunity become as sucessful as you would have hoped here.

People flame Pickles, but I would like to see him with another shot. After all, he was a rookie, with no talent around him, with a staff that had their bags packed. Dont get me wrong, Pickles oportunity here is long gone and i think Cam is an absolute beast, but there is still an itch in me that wants Pickles to show his many many naysayers whats up.

I agree with you on Pilares, but as versatile as he is, when hav we actually used him? If we are not gonna put him on the field, then why not keep someone we will use? We should try to get the most out of our personnel. But I totally agree, Pilares can be an asset.......if we USE him.

Pilares was starting to see the field quite a bit until he got hurt.

On offense? I kno he was getting looks at returner and doing great. I WANT to keep him anyway, I hav been a fan of him since he came in. And like mentioned earlier he is really diverse. Its not just Pilares I'm talking about. If we are not gonna work them in our game plans and get them on the field, why keep them? Bring in someone you will put on field. Get all you can out of each roster spot.

    • Call me crazy but if you’re in the bottom 7 in efficiency using Zone 84% of the time why not try something else? You paid Jaycee top 5 CB money use him more effectively. Zone is only efficient if you can generate a good pass rush to force a QB into mistakes otherwise you will get picked apart
    • Good Lord this board has become a cesspool of negativity and where fandom becomes something twisted and unrecognizable.
    • Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.
