7/30 camp thread

Recommended Posts

First post. I've been reading the site for a year or so. I had a question that you fellas might be able to assist with.

Yesterday at CLT-Douglas, I saw a black male - fairly dark complexion with a DE/TE type build. He had a Buffalo Bills bag that had his name on it.  He was with a small white guy and they were waiting for a chauffeur. He was clearly a football player. I was trying to get close enough to read the name on his bag but wasnt able to.

Does anyone know of any players that we might be bringing in for a look or a tryout? I guess alternative explanations could be that he is an Injured Bills player from this area or a player that just got cut. I haven't seen any reports about visiting players since Wharton. Any ideas?

Maybe Chris Scott...Would have been the starting LG in Buffalo but failed the conditioning program.

Nothing impressive though.

If need be to keep things civil, I apologize as well.

This is what you do though Hatter. You pop in and throw out labels and accusations talking about homers and excuses, and then get combative when people have the gall to question your uninformed remarks.

I have no issue with you, but you made it personal and threw out insults first.

Regardless, I am good. I consider it a dead issue.

It is done.....dead issue.

Mitchell is someone to follow. Read some twitter updates saying he hired a personal trainer this offseason to work on his ball handling and footwork. Also said this is the scariest front 7 he has ever seen or played with.

I loved when i read that too.

Shows he really wants to be the best.  Team him up with Godfrey and we could have a very solid group at Safety.

I have heard his name almost everyday since we started last week.

I would assume that the guy is a low level camp body that  had a connecting flight to get to the Bills camp.

Or he's a low level guy coming to Panthers camp but is still relying on a bag the Bills game him previously.

I would think my first assumption is more likely;

Don't laugh but it could have been Mark Anderson. Rotational pass rusher coming off of a bad year.

Mario Williams?  He left Bills camp to have his foot evaluated.  Maybe he is having that done in Charlotte like Madhatter suggested?

this is interesting......

Although it could have been a Bills player coming down to see Dr Andrews (renound otho that lives in Charlotte).  He is often regarded as one of the best......just a thought.

I don't think Dr. James Andrews lives in CLT.

Ah yes, I bet it was Mario... we have a renowned foot surgeon in CLT, same guy that did Stew and Crabtree's foot surgery among many others.

I agree, Cam should be a lil better when under pressure. I know it makes things harder, but being able to make accurate good passes in the face of pressure is what elite QB's do. He's a great qb, but taking the next steps are needed and he's CLEARLY making them.

Of course, this O-line must do much, much better so that he can do his job more comfortably. I'm much more concerned over them than Cam. But they aren't playing scrub D-line.

It's just TC though, so no big guys.

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
