If we go 9-7 and miss the playoffs, Rivera should NOT be fired.

At the end of the day, there is only so much a coach can do. Rivera can continually tell Chud to run the ball or to not use the read option so much; but at the end of the day Chud makes the calls and it's not like he is going to get fired if he doesn't listen or agree with Ron. Coordinators and position coaches are never fired in-season.

I cannot disagree more. The oc does what the hell the head coach says, or yes he will get shitcanned.

There's been instances where that hasn't been the case... Rob Ryan for instance. Ryan was told during the season to simplify the defense, he didn't but he still remained with the team until the end of the year. I'm not convinced that Chudzinski wouldn't have been fired if he wouldn't have gotten the Browns job.

True but some of the top-tier coaches were given 5-10 years (in that time enduring losing records) no more than a decade ago. Why? Because several of those teams were utter crap. Ron inherited a horrific team with holes everywhere. It's not much of a difference if you ask me. Has he struggled however? Absolutely. Yet, if he builds on those lessons from last year and keeps us competitive all year long, he deserves to stay.

Saban wanted out though. He appeared incredibly stressed and he didn't bother to hide it. Players came forward and hinted that Saban was just going through the emotions, and at times, was indifferent to was transpiring on the field.

If we go 9-7 and miss the playoffs, do you really want at MINIMUM want to wait another two years. As stated, this team should be in the playoffs. We swept the Saints, we should have swept the falcons, by some ridiculous fluke, we lost twice to tampa (you KNOW that isn't gonna happen again), the south SHOULD be ours, with our improved squad.

Those don't really compare, and honestly Ryan was just the scapegoat so Garrett could get another season.

Regardless, I am going to do what I do every season as a Panther fan. Hope for the best.

What are you going to do, fire him? Position coaches and coordinators are never fired in-season. At the end of the day, Rivera can only hope that Chud respects him enough to go with his game plan.

I'm not blaming it all on Chud because there were some flawed game plans by Rivera, but DeAngelo Williams' comments kind of made me think that there might have been some disagreements between Rivera and Chud.

If a head coach can't get his coordinators to follow orders then he probably shouldn't be a head coach.

True, and I'm not saying that's what happened (and it might not even be likely)... it's just a possibility.

But once again, there's only so much that Rivera could do other than firing him mid season if they truly didn't see eye to.

Any who, lets hope for the best.

Beat the teams we should beat. Be competitive with the good teams. Play good solid football. Finish with a 9-7 record and no playoffs. I say keep Rivera.

Beat the teams we should beat. Be competitive with the good teams. Play good solid football. We should make the playoffs. Which should be the realistic outcome for this team.

Be competitive. Play good football. Play tough hard nosed football. Keep the mistakes down. All signs of a good team. If we play that way, we make the playoffs. We make the playoffs. Rivera keeps his job. Which is as it should be.

We played good football at the end of last year. Which is why we were winning. If we can carry that good football over to this year. We will be a good team. That is all that matters. That should be all it takes for Rivera to keep his job.

tl/dr version. Playoffs or not. If we play, and look, like a good football team. Rivera keeps his job.

We haven't been over ,500 since 2008 guys. If we go 9-7 that is a winning record while still showing that Rivera is consistently making the team better each year. That is a competitive record that puts us in hunt for exciting football in December. That would bring a lot of excitement for fans.

Obviously I want us in the playoffs but it's better than another 6-10 or 7-9 then have Rivera sht canned. Then we lose another 2 years regrouping.

I really would love to see Rivera put it all together this season.

Unfortunately for Chico, he has an owner that wasn't sold on him initially and a new GM that didn't choose to hire him.

At the end of this season if Dave Gettleman finds someone available that he has more confidence in to win the Lombardi trophy, Rivera could be toast regardless of the team's final record.

I understand the value for Rivera's head. The feeling that we have Cam, and we should be doing better than last year's rookie class. Seeing that success has made me envious!

I see our team though as a work in progress. We were bad, hence the #1 pick, and Rivera and staff made us exciting again. We've seen growth yearly, but not at the pace many would like to see.

I want to see more improvement for the team, better running the ball, smarter football, and better performance from the team. Will that equate to playoffs? I hope so, but the NFC is very good this year, and the South just as much. If we go 9-7 or 10-6, are very competitive, and just miss out.. Well, I would hate to see him fired.

Now if the wheels fall off wagon... Can him! I can't wait till we play real games!
