ITT we discuss the offensive line

If it's only a one year deal it's not a bad investment.

And what kind of a team do you think Wharton transforms our team into exactly?

If we are going to be good, we are going to be good regardless of Wharton or not.  The same applies the other way around.  Wharton is a 32 year old guard coming off a season ending injury and he wasn't good anymore before he left.  He offers us very little regardless of if he is better than what we have right now.

And I am not sold at all that the Wharton I saw playing LG in 2011 is better than the Williams I see playing RG in 2013.

That's find Mage, you can have your opinion.

However, when your franchise quarterbacks' health depends on the offensive line, don't act like it's such a stupid idea to upgrade it.

I never said don't upgrade the offensive line.  Please read my posts.

Signing Travelle Wharton is not going to somehow make me feel any better about our offensive line or Newton's health.  Can we stop acting like Wharton is the second coming of Hutchinson?  If this was Brandon Moore, I would feel differently.  But Wharton was trash in 2011.  People seem to overlook this.  He is coming off a season ending injury and hasn't participated in anything recently.  His "strength" beforehand was run blocking anyway, at least if I remember correctly.

He sucks.  Signing him is not going to make Newton feel any better about himself in the pocket.  Our offensive line is just full of guys who excel (or for better word, are better at) at run blocking a lot more than pass blocking, and that includes Kalil.

every week we are either going to win the superbowl or land the number one draft pick by october. preseason spawns more reactionaries than any single game during the regular season.

On my calendar, the Annual Hyperbole Festival comes right after the season opener.

I think that's the biggest event of it's kind. Preseason isn't far behind though.

All I want this year is to make the Playoffs. Show that we are capable of being a competitive team. From tonight's game, we got a long way to go.

We have been competitive ever since Rivera got here. Only 1-3 games where we got blown out. The season imo rests on the OL and Cam.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
