Cris Carter, Keyshawn, Tom Jackson Trash Our Offense, Lack of Building Team Around Cam

Justifiably, just on Countdown...

  • Cris said he is sick and tired of hearing about Smitty being the ONLY offensive weapon we have to help him.  Said Cam is one of the bright, young QBs and needs help.  He also said it's awfully hard when you have guys like RG3, Kap, and Wilson, and "some cities" won't stand behind their QB or be patient when he isn't being given any help.  I don't know what that last part was supposed to mean and certainly hope that wasn't intimated in some way to Cris, as he knows Cam really well.

  • Keyshawn said the same thing about our lack of offensive weapons.  Said we have nothing outside of Smitty to help Cam.  Then said, we have $100 million in RBs that "can't get over the hump," and if you have your QB as your leading rusher considering that investment, you have a problem.  Interestingly enough, he said he didn't know our OC (Chud) had left to coach Cleveland until it was just reported by Lisa Salters (lol), and when they said Mike Shula is now our OC, he basically laughed and said "that isn't helping him."  He said Shula historically hasn't shown he can do anything in this league.  Wow (have to wonder if he heard things from Bucs teammates, considering Key went there a year after Shula was replaced as OC).

  • TJ then basically said the same thing, but added that all the other young QBs in the league have some of the best running games behind them, and Cam needs that.

They haven't really used the draft or FA to pick up anyone to grow with Cam Newton. They haven't really invested in the offense at all, except for the two high dollar RB's.  Take a look at what Indy did with Luck, they drafted him and then built an offense around him playmaker wise by using draft picks on players to grow with him. Washington went out and spent a ton of money on WR's to put around RG3.

There's a reason it hasn't been working in Charlotte and it's because they haven't paid enough attention to putting young playmakers around Cam that he and the offense can grow with. There's Smitty and Cam Newton with a side of Greg Olsen and that's pretty much it on offense.

they trashed olsen so fug them

I'm not sure that's how they intended it to come off, but if it was, I think its because of his reputation as being a one-demensional player.

Regardless, they have a point. Look how the Skins, Colts, Hawks, and Niners have surrounded their QBs with talented playmakers, no matter the cost.

Cam has done the most with the least since snap one.

    • Because playoff hockey and regular season hockey aren’t the same thing.  It’s a combination of the game intensity being dialed up with loose officiating.
    • The last 8 weeks, Nix had 2,022 yards, 21 TDs, 6 INTs on 70% completions While Bryce's last 8 games he had 1,709 yards, 12 TDs (albeit adding 5 more rushing), 3 INTs on 61% completions. I'm not going to pretend I watched those Broncos games to know exactly how Nix actually looked, but in retrospect, his statistics were better.  Hell, in just his final 8 games, Nix had only 5 less TD passes than Bryce has in his 30 game (28 starts) career. And you said he had better WRs than Bryce did, but I'm not even sure that's even true either. Sutton and Thielen might be completely different types of WRs, but I'd say they are pretty equal on effectiveness if not even a slight edge to Thielen (63.6 YPG for Sutton to 61.5 for Thielen).  Then XL and Coker vs Marvin Mims and Devaughn Vale, again, at worst a push, if not lean in our favor there too. Why is it so hard for some Panthers fans to just objectively look at our team/Bryce and be honest with themselves. ? He was significantly improved the final two months of the season from his first season and a half.  But he was still a below average QB during that time, even if he had a few good throws and clutch moments.
