Why were there no designed roll outs for cam?

I can't imagine they would hide everything they want to do.  This looks like it's all on the line, but when there's no attempt at misdirection, and we are leaning on the weak links, how do you expect it to look?

This is coaching.  But not Rivera, of course.

How many times last night did Cam break through the pocket only to throw instead of run.  Did he try and make that third down scramble on a run or just go down safely?  How many screens did we run?  How many designed Qb runs?  How many counter plays, play action, etc.  Anyone who thinks that this is all we are going to do aren't paying attention.  This is the offense Shula ran in the past but it isn't the one we will run when we allow Cam to take chances.  Why would we want to open things up with a huge lead.  Think for a minute.  I believe we will have to rethink the whole power running game if this is the best we can do. And if last night was the whole offensive playbook, then we are in trouble.  Still with a guy like Cam back there, I doubt we aren't going to open things up big time.

Part of me thinks you are right, and part of me thinks you are giving Shula way too much credit.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets it.

We will see a different offense come week 1. It may not be the best offense of all time, but if its close to what it was previous years we will make the playoffs with this defense.

Yeah what I saw all night last night was a team that is trying to protect their QB's body through playcalling that is not able to protect him through offensive line play.

I don't expect to see a lot of bootlegs or fancy anything involving Cam until the games matter and you can bet there's a guy in his headset telling him to get rid of the ball before he takes a huge hit rather than sit in the pocket and give himself up to get a completion (like he would in a real game).

Our offense does have issue that need to be worked out (those drops last night and that OL play...both were fuging disgusting) but I expect (hope?) you're not seeing the gameplan we'd execute starting week 1.

Shula called that screen play on a 1st down when we just got the ball back and they weren't bringing pressure.

When Cam was getting WTFblitzed he was just like meh its just a 3rd and forever lets drop Cam back 7 steps.

Point is...regardless of the type of season it is Shula has never shown he knows wtf is going on, nor does he recognize the flow of a game.

Yup. He must be by far the worst OC ever. We would do a better job.

It's just odd however, that personnel interviewed him extensively and chose him over other candidates. I wonder what they discussed in those interviews? How often to wear black pants? Cams favorite color? Or showing what he plans to do with the offense this season??

In other words, he didn't get where he is by having no idea what he's doing. He wasn't great 15 years ago but that was with Trent friggin dilfer.

We will be fine.

I'm not saying we would do a better job, but it may be worth pointing out that Shula was the only guy interviewed who would accept a one year deal.

Cam has proven he can play from the shotgun very effectively.  I'm just hoping that this preseason was to see how well he does under center to give us an idea of what we are capable of and how extensive the playbook can be.  But with our line struggling like it has been, we will need the pass to set up the run.

I can only hope it is to hide much of what we are doing on offense for the regular season.

My gut tells me this is not the case though. I want to believe otherwise.

Cams post game press conference screamed of that. It seems they are really trying not to let out any film on cam. The read option hasn't been ran at all. I hope that's the case but I'm definitely starting get the sense they are holding back
