Never attribute to malice what can more easily be explained by incompetence.

You're the one making this as an either/or situation. I've made it perfectly clear who I think did what.

Richardson wanted to go cheap to make a point in '10 so he could "take back the league". Then he over compensated after his lockout by insisting on contracts for the players he was closest to and felt were his core a la Jerry of the West (Jones. Not surprisingly, the two are buddies).

We're haven't even gone into the whole "veiled threats to extort $90 million to fix up his luxury boxes" business.

Oh no no Im not making this a situation so much as Im prying an actual answer out of you instead of just a blatent "JR is a bad owner because of 2010"

Shrug, do tell. Sounds horrific.

Someone made the comment about how bad the Panthers have been after 18 years in the league. So I thought I would look at a couple other teams and see how they preformed in their 1st 18 seasons.

So I thought it would be fun to have some trivia. See if you can guess what team's records are listed below. (based on the franshise's 1st 18 seasons)

Team 1: Winning % .352, conference championships 0, division titles 0, playoff appearances 1, winning seasons 4.

Team 2: Winning % .398, conference championships 0, division titles 1, playoff appearances 3, winning seasons 5.

Team 3: Winning % .458, conference championships 1, division titles 3, playoff appearances 4, winning seasons 4.

I'll post the answers sometime tomorrow.

Being intelligent and being wise are two different things.

Need to be intelligent to be a cap expert and deal with numbers.

Need to be wise when dealing with people. Marty is a smart guy, but he wasn't wise managing the team.

I know people who are intelligent, wise, great with numbers and good with people who I wouldn't put in charge of picking a grade school flag football team.

Some people are very well able to make numbers add up on a spreadsheet. But it's not enough.

Some people are good at scouting talent. But that alone also isn't enough to make a good GM either.

You have to be able to put the two together and recognize the value of a player in the current market.

The best way to prove you can do that is by working your way through the ranks from scout up to player personnel.  Marty Hurney never did that.  Dave Gettleman did.

Over the next several seasons, I hope we see a clear difference.

I'm really good at scouting, pick me! Pick me! But seriously, as an example, I present Cordarrelle Patterson. Had we drafted him he could've been a 1,000 yard receiver from the get go and moved Smitty into the slot a little sooner. Our offense is not complex and he would've had no trouble picking it up. That said, we drafted for need and BPA by picking Star which I'm not upset about. Patterson will be a stud in the league and Ponder will soon look better because of it.

Jake locker and Blaine gabbert? You guys remember when ESPN had them over Cam on almost every draft board they put out? Real love paid evaluators. Luckily our success is not based on what they choose. We would still be in the gutter if we had made that mistake.

Two Jimmehs on one team...eek

As a businessman and as a person he is great.

From a fans perspective As a NFL owner he is hot garbage.

How many other businesses are out there that no matter how bad your product is your customers will get penalized financially if they think about not renewing their subscription or seats. Then after his business has grown from $250 to over 1Billion make a passive aggressive that about moving the team.

Oh and Give the loyal fans a crap product for 75% of you're teams existence and line your pockets with their money but don't take bad contracts on the chin because it hurts your stock holders shares.

It's a heck of a business model

Well, you started out well. . .

Did you watch Cordarrelle Patterson this preseason? He has the ability to get to a thousand off of nearly talent alone. He's not as imposing as Dez Bryant(who you also didn't think was any good until late last season) but he can be a more versatile, quicker Julio jones who had 1,000 yards last season.

Just an observation based off of observation. Talent evaluators can't always use numbers to substantiate their claims and this is one of those cases. You put on the film and you see what's possible if you put the ball in his hands. Don't give me the whole what if he doesn't fit or make it in our system, make him fit. Like the Redskins overhaul of their offense for Robert and the Saints Darren Sproles. Hopefully we don't lose sight of that for Cam.
