Gravity

This was one of the most intense movies I've ever seen.  I've hated watching 3D in every other movie I've seen but this was done very well.  If you know anything about space you'll have to suspend disbelief hard but just remember it's a movie.  I wouldn't agree with the reviews that call it a masterpiece but it's very, very good.

See it in IMAX or see it in 3d...the visuals are insane.  Just don't bring a physics book(although it's not that bad).

edit:  After reading other reviews and comments I see what people are talking about with the 'masterpiece' type talk and I totally agree.  I'm not a big movie guy so I didn't notice the huge technical achievements this movie pulled off.  From the very get go there are LOOOONG continuous shots that pan seamlessly from wide overviews to close detail.  I knew the cinematography was great, I just didn't realize that was what was creating the intense immersion.  I felt the effects, I just didn't know why.

Also, for the science part of it, this sums it up perfectly:

So, that’s a lot that Gravity gets wrong. But you know what? So what? The shuttle, space station and spacesuits are painstakingly recreated; the physics of moving about in space—thrusts requiring counterthrusts, spins requiring counterspins, the hideous reality that if you do go spiraling off into the void your rotation never, never stops—are all simulated beautifully, scarily and accurately. Gravity will wind you up and wring you out as only the best thrillers do. Absolute technical accuracy matters—except when it doesn’t. Gravity gets a well-earned waiver.

Faraci is a tool and a bully. I ginueinly dislike him. Funny story, I told him the next time me and him crossed paths, I'd kick him in the ass so hard that his ass would lead to scientists universally accepting M-Theory and Wormholes.

I just got back from seeing it, and I'm speechless. 10 out of 10. Gravity should sweep The Oscars.

Ya know, I won't disagree with your opinion of Faraci as a person. I have had the same thoughts as well...but I still respect the hell out of his film reviews.

Saw Gravity today in IMAX 3D and it was pretty awesome.

Two things I took away from the film: 1)Sandra Bullock is a milf

2) Sandra Bullock should win an Oscar for best actress. Brilliant performance.

I really liked it.  It felt like the movie was only 15min long because of the intensity.  I felt like they were reaching a bit when Sandra Bullock breaks out the fire extiguisher and uses it to navigate space.

The notion that they could get from Hubble to the ISS is so ridiculous you just need to accept everything after that.

Reminds me of Apollo 13, one of those where your gut is twisted for pretty much the whole movie.

('Open Water' was like that too)

Yeah Gravity reminded me of Open Water as I was watching it. The feelings of hopelessness and being stranded where humans are not physically built to be.

Yet I like to see great actor/actress receive recognition for their work. They got it right with Lawrence and Hathaway last year.

No they didn't. I didn't really see many of the supporting actresses last year, but J Law was really overrated in that performance, and she was severely out acted by Bradley Cooper in my opinion.

I thought Quvenzhane Wallis should've won for Beasts of the Southern Wild, but would be thought less of simply because she was so young and apparently the young actors/actresses are easy to manipulate rather than the acting coming solely from their own minds and bodies?

But then again, what do I know.

    • I must apologize, my sarcasm at times doesnt translate well in text form lol. At this point I would welcome us signing him, Trey Lance, trading for Jameis Winston, asking about Deshaun Watson and playing phone tag with Tom Brady before I ever fully entertain a season of Bryce Young being the defacto Starting Quarterback of the Panthers.

    • We had a QB who could do that and its the last time we went to the Super Bowl and the only time we had an MVP. Once he lost his ability to do that he was out of the league. To filter out insignificant stats I will only look at QBs who have played in 10 or more games this year. There are 28 qualifying QBs. Bryce is 25th in Air Yards per Attempt at 6.4. Only Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, and Dillon Gabriel are worse (6.0, 5.8, 5.1). Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, and CJ Stroud are the median QBs at 7.1. Drake Maye and Sam Darnold lead the league at 8.7. Bryce is 18th in the league for passes that travel 30+ yards at 12. The median is Caleb Williams at 15. The league leader is Matthew Stafford with 26. With passes that travel 40+ yards, Bryce is tied with three others at 21st in the league with 3. Only Jacoby Brissett, Cam Ward, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel are worse. The median is a three-way tie with Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence, and Baker Mayfield with 6. The league leader is Sam Darnold with 12. Having the ability to complete passes down the field (not YAC) stretches the defense and makes them account for more ground. It keeps players out of the box and keeps formations in nickel or dime, less line backers for your RBs to worry about. Bryce is why we have 2 losses against the Saints. If he had the outright ability to sling the football down field we beat the easily, but he doesn't. So they crowded the box and our 2 starting caliber RBs with our top ~10 Oline couldn't carry the offense to a win on their own. The limitations of the offense fall squarely on Bryce.
