Beason traded?

Those opposed to this trade need to admit it is an emotional aspect!

From a Panther perspective, his role as a backup for 2013 since it has already started is more valuable finishing out the year than a 7th.

We need to move on from Beason. Midseason for nothing just seems like a pointless distraction. That isn't emotional.

As far as doing him a favor? I don't really care about that. He has been compensated well....He isn't in a bad situation. In fact, we really set him up perfectly as most teams probably wouldn't of pulled the trigger on his big deal. I only care about looking at it from the Panther vantage point......being a Panther fan

I personally think even as a backup he was false insurance. He just isnt the same. We were moving on from Beason at the end of the year, might as well get some compensation.

All of this is just my personal opinion, but i like the message it sends to the team. Its a sign that the days of over paying and over valueing players are over. You you do not fit the mold you are gone.

Potentially like "the patriot way". Obviously beason doesnt have any character concerns, but he doesnt fit, he dosnt produce, they guy is gone even though hes jon beason.

Just being one of the guys doesnt cut if anymore. Also shows Gettleman is cold and isnt an emotional reactor when it comes to things like this. Exactly what we need imo, a guy running the show who sees it like it is!

Beas still wants to make $$$ and there's no recouping the $20M signing bonus he was given to play 7 games in the last 3 years. Beas isn't going to play for peanuts for us just because we dropped a wad of dough his way. He will have to work through a lot of pain and wants to earn money for his efforts. The Panthers just aren't going to foot that bill after taking such a large hit for 7 of a possible 36 games since his new contract.

He earned $24M so far to play 7 games. SEVEN!!! that's over $3M a game...

Greg Hardy was a 6-rounder folks

yea yea and Michael Jordan was cut...... just kidding I had to throw that in, I couldn't help it. lol

nevertheless, this should help our financially statement next year where we can actually spend this money on players that CAN make a difference and that late pick can be traded or fill in next year lighter wholes in our roster. I was certainly hoping for more, but its all about what have you done lately in the NFL so a player's history is irrelevant after repeat injury history.

I hate the timing of the damn trade. Trade one of the leaders in your locker room just before playing a game. Include that with the bye and it wouldn't shock me for this team to come out flat. Way to go gettleman throw your old team a bone and cause a distraction on your new team.

Some of you guys are so picky... come on.  This is probably the best situation for everyone.  Beason did not fit at OLB and as Zod, Rayzor and others have said, had he finished the season here we would have gotten nothing for him and he's still be gone.

We get another draft pick for a guy that should rightly be riding the bench this season due to previous injuries.

I hate that he's gone, he was one of my all-time fav Panthers D players, but it's best for him and the Panthers.

I think this was a smart move by Gettlemagic.

Players are only worthy as a backup if they can play reasonably well and are healthy. Beason, at this point, isn't near that level and given his slow health progress proably won't be for the majority of the season. We have other backups who can play just as well as this depleted Beason. As far as a leader, he will be missed but we have enough of those in the lockeroom that it won't be a palpable issue.

Two different statements, but one reply will work for both.

After Beason's restructure, his salary is only 1 million this year with a possible 1.75 million in "active roster bonuses", the remaining money on the contract is dead money. His contract voids 5 days into FA this off season and we would no longer be on the hook for any dead money.

Dead money (in this case, unallocated bonus) never goes away. You have to have all of that bonus hit your cap. It can't be renegotiated or traded away.

So unless we took a huge charge this year, and I'm sure we didn't, we are going to have dead money this year and next to deal with.

if they come out flat, it's not because we traded Beason..  your leaders must be on the field for that to matter anyway.

My understanding is that there is no dead money after this year.

    • MORGAN ON PLAY CALLER FOR CANALES   "I think that's really his [Canales'] call," he stated. "I think if he wants to promote somebody into being the play-caller or bring somebody from the outside. We haven't really talked about that. But that is something that I'm sure we'll talk about. We talk about every decision together. If he feels like he needs to add somebody or promote somebody into being the play-caller, then I trust him."
    • Dude, he cannot see the field, when his feet are not set he throws ducks.   What the fug are you watching?
    • I'm looking at the final drive, and that's where I'm laying the blame at Bryce's feet. Stepping up to the line, 38 seconds left, 3 time outs on the clock. 30 yards needed to attempt a FG. It's not Bryce's job to call the plays, that's DC's and it was terrible play calling.  It's Bryce's job to read what the defense is giving him at the line. The middle of the field is open. Rams are guarding against the deep ball and bringing pressure leaving the middle of the field ripe for the taking. Knowing his line not holding up for long, Bryce should have read the defense, called the audible, and thrown to the middle of the field for 6- 8 yards, like you said, quick slants would have worked. Then run either hurry up or call a TO. We had time. He has to make the adjustments. Any QB has to make the adjustments.  The pass Horn dropped hit his hands but was at his knees. Should he have slid and caught it? Probably. Was the pass a good one? No it wasn't. Both players were at fault, not just Horn. Let's not pretend that Bryce threw a beautiful pass that hit the receiver chest high right in the hands in perfect stride because that damn sure wasn't the throw.  The defense didn't choke away a lead. They never had a real lead. Choking away a lead is being up by multiple scores late in the 4th and losing. We were up by 4 and handed the ball back to a potential MVP with an All pro WR and potential future HoF WR2. One score games in the 4th are a slug fest. 28-3. That's choking away a lead.  I don't solely blame Bryce for the game, but you seem to solely blame the defense for the game because they went to prevent after losing Horn. You are forgetting the short field that the offense left them that led to the early Puka TD on one of our 2 failed 4th down conversions. Our defense has been given very limited resources over the past 3 years while we have tried to put everything possible around Bryce. We added a little bit to the D this year after giving up a NFL record in points last year. Our defense overachieved based on what they've been given to work with.
