Stopping Newton - The Word is Out

60% is batpoo crazy.  the first drive was quick and efficient, and was effectively a TD.  calling faster plays will slow that pass rush down.  if we run a hurry up offense with rollouts, quick slants and screens, we will solve a lot of these problems.  unfortunately, we run the slowest developing offense in the history of the sport*.

that was an exaggeration, please don't come at me with stats showing the 2-3 offenses from 1953 that were slower.

the funny thing is that if smitty and lafell didnt drop 2 touchdowns that can be made by the average pop warner player, you guys would probably be praising cam for throwing for 300 yds and 2 TDs against an elite defense. its hard for me to blame cam his OLine struggles to pick up even the most basic blitz packages, his receivers drop passes at the most crucial times, and he has dumbass for an offensive coordinator and a QB coach whos never been a coach before. moving the ball all the way down the field and then going into the wildcat once you get inside the redzone is shula logic 101

Harrison actually said Newton should be benched.

Dungy disagreed.

Wrong!.... He said Cam should change teams;

Transcript from NBC:

Harrison: “It’s just time to switch quarterbacks…Cam Newton has struggled time and time again. We’ve seen flash opportunities for him to get better, and just time and time again it just seems like he regresses.”

Dungy: “But, in those highlights you can’t blame Cam. They’re dropping passes, seven sacks; I like Cam Newton.”

Harrison: “I like him too. I didn’t say I didn’t like him. But it’s time for him to change teams.”

you are comparing a third year, raw prospect of a QB to arguably the greatest QB of all time and a guy people have been giving crap for the past 5 years for not playing well when it counts. Both in their mid to late 30's with tons of experience in the game... That's a bit hyperbolic to claim at this stage in his career...

Apples and Oranges dude...

I never understood the idiom "apples and oranges"

Both are fruits, both are round, both are high in vitamin C and antioxidants, both can be sour or sweet, and both have seeds. So in essence, wouldn't comparing "apples and oranges" mean that you're comparing two similar subjects deeming the comparison "valid"

The phrase instead should be comparing "apples and a chevy pickup" or "apples and a toothbrush"  or something along those lines.

It is now up to Mike Shula to realize that teams will be be bringing more pressure than ever before. It is up to him to counter the strategy with plays that quickly develop and make the defense second guess their approach.

We fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugggggggggggggggggggggggggggged!!!

"Time to switch QBs" doesn't sound like benching to you?

PTI just had a few things to say about Cam also.

Not good.  Career trajectory going in the wrong direction.

All sports guys are now noticing the "special" label has rubbed off at the moment.

They said that Cam had been passed by most of the young QB's like Luck, Wilson, Ginger and even Tannehill.

They did ponder if there was a perfect QB guru that could help him, did not name one.

I'm going to start a Therapy Center in Charlotte for all you Cam fans when the Panthers cut ties with him either next year or the year after.  He's no better than  Josh Freeman right now. Actually he may be less than Josh since Josh did have a season with 10 wins.   Cam got 10 of his 14 wins (took him two seasons) after other teams quit trying.  Cam's a great athlete but after two seasons the NFL's defenses have caught up with him.    Time to get something for him while a little glimmer remains.

Cam just doesn't have what it takes. He has a mess around him yes, but man.... he doesn't have it He's close but just.... You really think we can win a super bowl with this guy?

I look at that guy in Indy and already know he's got super bowl in his future. With Cam I can't believe it.

Cam has what it takes around him.  It (including Cam) is not being utilized effectively.

Yes, we can win a Superbowl with this guy.  I doubt we can win it with this staff.

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
