Can someone explain to me What the downside is to Firing Rivera mid-season

I keep seeing everyone suggesting that there is no way Rivera is fired mid-season.  I'm curious if G-man is such a great GM why he wouldn't do this now.  The season looks lost.   Perhaps firing Rivera would jumpstart a miracle comeback.  What else is there to lose?  Make McD the HC and see what happens says I.

Jerry Richardson would have to pay his salary for the rest of the season even though he wouldn't be coaching.  That is the only downside.  The upside, maybe the reaction the team would have to losing their coach would either make the team go into tank mode so we could have a good draft pick or maybe finally light a fire under the team and start winning.  Either way it's worth a shot because nothing is changing with Rivera at the helm.

1) It's unlikely that McD would save this season

2) JR hates firing people mid season - when he and I spoke he said he felt he paid a coach to develop players and that firing them was basically letting them off the hook.  Also, he literally told me that would cost money and fans don't like when he has to recoup losses since the like prices being low LOL

3) Reality is the season isn't totally lost, even if most of us feel it is... I mean, it's four games in and we aren't making the playoffs but you never know I guess.

Gettleman is a yes man. JR runs this show. He does what Richardson tells him to do.

It was Jerry who forced Rivera on Gettleman in the first place. Yet you think Gettleman actually calls the shots? Nope.

Not being a smart azz but is this true?? I hear this all time but I haven't seen anything credible to prove it.

I think we are all wondering that same thing. Firing a coach mid season just isn't J.R 's way.

Of all the replacements that Rivera had to hire this season he did a good job of not hiring a capable fill in.

There isn't a position coach on this team who would do worse as the HC than Rivera!

Ricky Proehl anyone!

    • I'd hold on to Walker - we have no OT depth at all. Freeling is a block of clay - all the tools are there and he appears to have a great attitude. He needs serious work on his technique to realise his potential though.
    • From my watch last night: They weren't trading out of 19 unless it was a daft offer once Freeling got there. They were clearly antsy to get Hunter - and Minnesota actually called to offer the trade down. They weren't trading out of the third round pick once Brazzell fell to it (and Canales would have been happy with him in the second round). They traded back a lot on Day 3 - even if Morgan 'Babe Ruth'd' it with Lee, Hecht and Wheatley; they clearly weren't the only guys they would have taken at those picks. I'm curious to know which player caused the reaction at the start of day 2 (Dan Morgan): "of course they'd pick him"
    • Watching this confirms that this staff and front office is super high on Monroe Freeling. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gotta a real chance to win the starting LT job in camp. If he does, we can look to flip Rasheed Walker to a contender desperate for tackle help.   As for Ickey I still really like him and wanna extend him but based on how the staff was talking about Freeling it might be time for ickey to start taking some practice sets at guard if he wants to stay here as we are gonna have to have figure out a solution for the contracts of Lewis and Hunt.  My preferred scenario for the Oline in 2027 is Freeling-Ickey-Hech-Lewis-Moton.
