Frank Alexander....

Thinking about this sort of reminds me of what Hurney had to say about drafting DEs. He was going on about how it was becoming more rare to get a chance to pick a DE with the ideal height, size and speed combination. In a way he had decided at that time that waiting around for the ideal DE was no longer an option. He said all of this in an effort to explain why he had decided on drafting Everette Brown. I don't want to roll the dice in the draft and try to find a starting DE. I'd rather spend some serious money to keep our defense in the top 5, where we're in every single game we play. Let guys walk, make cuts and restructures elsewhere imo. Keep that front 7. We're not spending squat on the secondary, so no way should we allow the front 7 to erode in talent.

Hardy in his first and second years was better than Alexander in his first and second (so far) years though, in my opinion.

I agree, but I the point I am trying to make is that they improve a lot during the first three years.  Charles Johnson in year 2 may have been a better comparison.  I am looking at this financially, and wonder if we can afford Johnson and Hardy on $12m deals.  I still think Hurney overpaid for Johnson because our only competition appeared to be cap-strapped Atlanta.

For some reason, I am seeing Addison and even Horton more than Alexander right now--is he still in the doghouse from week 1?  The Panthers sure seemed to be a team that had been schooled in composure.  If Alexander or Horton made huge strides this year, we could let Hardy walk.  However, he is critical for this defense until someone doe

If y'all think Alexander is Hardy's replacement... Lulz. Frank is a situational pass rusher and nothing more.

hardy just does so much more than play DE.  If you really watch, he has sacks from the 3 tech too.  He is solid vs the run and his motor is unreal.

The issue will come down to $$$.  Can we afford to have about $23 million of the cap on Johnson and Hardy?  We are going through a period of time where we will also be carrying dead money.

I said last night teams are not even trying to block our D line anymore they are just grabbing and holding.

Man amazing amount of holding in the tb game. Why none were called just defies logic.

But holding aside both the rams and tb moved down relatively effortlessly on our d with little prssure for several drives. They are really bending but very hard to break

Personally I'd prefer more 3 and outs :)

So we don't have a game for ten days - let's talk about some non-pressing issues. Apologies if it's been mentioned before. Where has Frank been? Obviously a bad sign that he's been inactive for a couple of games and he's had zero impact during the games he's dressed for. Past two years he's been great as a 'change of pace' pass rusher. If he keeps this up, Hardy's gonna take us to the cleaners. Wonder if this is destined to be another Hurney folly...

He has been active and playing the past couple weeks. As a backup he still has limited chances so he won't show up every week.

I could be misremembering, but I seem to recall a week or so ago a commentator at one of our games quoting a stat that we're one of the top in the league at forcing 3 and outs.

Drew R. Is known to be a SOB agent and will try and squeeze every dime he can get out of a franchise for a player. This is what leaves me to believe that he will advise Hardy to split if we don't break the bank.Unless Frank A turns it around he is destined to be a backup/rotational DE in this league. DG has already shown that he will not be squeezed so we have few options after Hardy leaves for the cash.We will not pickup a DE high in the draft with the offense and it's needs. So what s the answer.....free agency I guess.

His 1st year was a nut case 2nd year crashed motorcycle before training camp then came in beat up and season showed it.  This is what gets me, he hurts him self doesn't do well but we still pay him.  Fast forward to now and looks like past times would allow him to cut Panthers some slack.  They sure seemed to cut him some.  Oh well, as long as we do the right thing is all that maters, he shouldn't worry about it.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
