If he was miserable here before there is no reason he wouldn't be miserable here again so it's a moot issue.  Now if he changed his tune and was willing to come back for the vet minimum and DG thought he was worth signing I would still cheer for the SOB.

he  could have been playing with Cam, Olsen, Steve, Star, Kawan, CJ in his prime, now Greg Hardy, Keuchly and a healthy Thomas Davis.

I'm glad he left because we got the better end of the deal and our franchise is so much better off now.

1.....

-Pep left our Jake Delhomme led catastrophic team for Chicago, signed a $91.5 Mill contract, went 11-5 that year and made it to the NFC Championship game, while we went 2-14. He made a good personal move leaving here at that point. It's not like he had any idea what was to come 4 years later.

Out of the 9 players you listed:

-5 were still in college

-Olsen was on another team

-CJ wasn't even considered an asset on this team yet (10 sacks in 3 seasons)

-and Thomas Davis was NOT HEALTHY, and was coming off a season where he only played 7 games (and missed the entire 2010 season as well)

.... that just leaves Smitty (with Matt Moore at the helm)

2.....

When peppers left for "nothing", we got awarded compensatory picks. The highest of which was a 3rd rounder. 97th overall. Who did we take with that pick? ..... None other than Sione Fua. As lazy as Pep was, him taking a nap on the field is worth more then Fua. So no, we didn't get the better "end of the deal" when an all-pro left our team for nothing.

edit: sorry if this was double posted

Pep was my favorite player. Loved him at UNC and loved (even when he was inconsistent) watching him for the Panthers. When he left, I gave my Peppers jersey to an Ecuadorian co-worker at the bar I worked at in college. He liked the Panthers and wanted to show off a nice NFL jersey to his illegal friends. It made him feel special and I knew I'd never wear it again. Sometimes I wonder what ever happened to that jersey.

The only thing about him leaving that still irritates me is that they let him leave without trying to get ANYTHING in return for him. #HurneyMagic

first, fug the jersey, I'm more interested in finding out what happened to that guy

secondly, didn't the Pats offer a 2nd rounder for him? Or was that just media speculation?

the guy was cool as hell. He was this older dude who was from Ecuador and I got along well with him. He was one of the servers who worked everyday and made a pretty damn good living doing it. I was like 22 and I was prob half his age. He was an illegal immigrant who gave up a pretty good life as a vet in Quito and moved up to the USA because his ex wife (who was incredibly hot even after popping out a kid) moved up to the USA and took his kid with her. He got fired like two years later and last I heard followed his ex wife down again to Miami. Haven't seen/heard about him in prob 3 years.
