I say we should keep him. I read somewhere that said since he has been injured, he goes to practices and film days and helps out when he doesn't have to. He is being a team player. He isn't staying home and playing xbox. He is right there with his team. I like that and I respect it. I say we keep him. Maybe we can renegotiate his contract.

His base salary is 5 million next year with a 1 million signing bonus hit and a 1.1million option bonus hit tagged on. If we cut him, we shed his 5 million base and only his 2 million in signing bonus cap distribution gets accelerated. Meaning we go from a 7.1 cap hit to a 2million cap hit, saving 5.1 million. 

 

 

If that's the case and we save $5.1 million,then yes, Charles Godfrey will probably be long gone,unless G-man can work out some magic numbers.

I don't think he gets cut.  I think Gettleman gets him to agree to restructure.

That's where the question comes in.

 

Does he bring something worth keeping on the roster.  If so, how much is it worth?

 

And I do believe said worth will have to be calculated in a backup role, because unless we're unable to keep some folks, I see zero chance that he's getting a starting role back.

Well I agree, but I don't believe all back ups are created equal.  Godfrey wouldn't be solely a backup, I'm sure we could diversify our defensive sub packages with him on board.   If you can get a starting caliber safety even if he's not listed as a starter for 1.5 million a year I think you would have to pull the trigger.  Besides that's what I think we're paying Drayton Florence and he isn't listed as a starter.

I agree, he was like the third best starting safety in the division. Not even the best on the team this year.  I don't understand how he commands so much when Gettleman proved that you can grab a guy like Mitchell or Mikell for less and have much better production.   Hurney Magic?
