Saints contemplating lineup changes week 16

The Saints stumbled to a 27-16 loss against the Rams in St. Louis on Sunday, and New Orleans travels to Carolina on Sunday to face the Panthers. New Orleans (10-4) would wrap up the division championship with a win, while Carolina (10-4) would take command of the NFC South if it prevails.

"Listen, I think we're looking closely at every element," Payton said. "You know, I told the players today in the team meeting we're looking closely at each aspect of this team.

"I just think it's important for us to do that. Whether it's (the kicker), the tackle position, whether it's a player on defense ... we're going to look closely at what our options are and what gives us the best chance."

The tackle Payton references was left tackle Charles Brown, who was benched in the third quarter at St. Louis. Brown committed two penalties, gave up two sacks, and allowed a hit on Drew Brees that contributed to the quarterback throwing an interception.

Right tackle Zach Strief moved to left tackle, and Bryce Harris took over on the right side.

"It was one aspect that I think we needed to change during the flow of that game," Payton said of Brown. "In fairness to him, I think there were a lot of things we didn't do well in that game."

Payton wasn't as diplomatic in his comments about Brown right after the game.

"I saw enough. I saw enough, period," the coach said Sunday. "It was enough penalties, pressures, sacks. It was enough. At some point you can't just keep watching it. Feelings get hurt, it is tough."

Let's hope the Panthers continue the chaos along the Saints OLine.

hardy beat him like a drum last game but was getting held all night with no help from refs.  hope the new guy knows how to roller skate.

Saints o-line was holding alllllllllll night. It will all look differently in the sunlight and hopefully be called as it should be.

All part of the Karma that goes with the Super Dome.  Seems some witch doctor in the Bayou cast a spell on them to miss the holding calls.

Changes could work in our favor as new faces on the line and lots of crowd noise would mean more penalties.

This X1000. Let's see if they get away with that poo when were at home. Gloves are off, blood will be shed, lives will be lost, children will be orphaned.

agreed

i swear hardy gets held more than anybody in the league, he has one of quickest jumps in the game.  such a mismatch with his size, strength and quickness.

    • We have taken two TEs in three seasons I think, and Sanders may not pan out or it may have been a sophomore slump, but we took a guy last year that was coming on.  I am not in favor of TE in round one and really don’t consider it a high priority in any round.
    • Trevon Moehrig, Turk Wharton, Bobby Brown, Jaelen Phillips, Devin Lloyd, Nic Scourton Giving him 6 starters in 2 offseasons that cost boat loads of money or a 2nd round pick... Not exactly handing the man scraps. The point of the draft is to make the team better. You want to make this about Bryce. It isn't. It's about improving the team. And if anyone can look at our offense and go "we're good", they are lying to themselves. You give quarterbacks weapons. We SCREAMED for YEARS to give Cam some help. But now because we are trying to do it for Bryce, you all are saying we are coddling him because of his "deficiencies". It's a double-standard because you don't like the guy, clearly. But even if he does fail, guess what? The next guy has help too. Win-win.
    • we have 2 solid/above average (however you want to phrase that) wr's, which is more than half the league at least.  We dont need to be blowing more first round capital just to placate Bryce and his limitations.   We have one absolute stud (probably top 10 wr) in tmac and we have a high floor guy with insane potential if he can stay healthy.  Yeah man we are in better shape than the bulk of the teams in the league.  If you need to add some speed or whatever, sure draft in the mid rounds or wait until tc cuts.  Its monumentally stupid to spend 3 straight firsts on a wr if thats the route they go.  ITs just more and more excuses for Bryce, thats where we are at now.    "How can bryce succeed without a big possession type wr (drafts 2 for him), how is bryce supposed to exceed without a speed guy......."   Its fuging never ending.  Give EE some goddamn help on defense for once
