Odds on RR getting COTY?

What do you think his chances are?  I feel like he has a much stronger case than Kelly or Reid, particularly given their schedules and the consistency the Panthers showed after the first few weeks.

Belichick, however, worries me.  The guy really pulled off a good year despite losing most of his team.  And of course, the media loves the Patriots...

But dat turnaround tho.

Rivera went from starting out 1 and 3 and proceeding to only lose 1 more game the rest of the season while knocking off 3 playoff teams and overtaking our division the second to last week of the season and ultimately clinching a bye in the playoffs. Reid went the opposite way after a strong start, so hes out. Not to mention the mid season coaching methodology paradigm shift to the ballsy gambler he became. And yes, the media likes the Patriots, but they LOVE the moniker Riverboat Ron. I think he gets COTY.

Belichick is in the Phil Jackson category, (Phil Jackson only won one COY award despite winning 11 NBA titles) he builds a successful team every year so voters tend to look for something fresh or news worthy like last year, Bruce Arians took over for the Colts after Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with cancer and the Colts ended up finishing 11-5. This year after starting 1-3 for the third season in a row, most pundits thought that Rivera would surely be fired during the offseason or even mid season. Rivera turned it around and went 11-1 to end the season and beat quality opponents during that stretch. Andy Reid was the frontrunner a month ago but the Chiefs did not beat any quality opponents and they lost 5 of their last 7 games. Chip Kelly is interesting because he was a college coach and led the Eagles to a division title but the Eagles like the Chiefs always had talented players, they just needed a coaching staff to utilize their talents properly. Rivera started from scratch, he had to draft his franchise quarterback (Cam), build his defense (drafted Luke, Short, and Star), and develop talented players like Greg Hardy.

I think he has a good chance, after winning the division, but there's also a good chance it goes to Reid (what a turnaround of a season) or Arians (would possibly been his had they made the playoffs).  I don't think it should go to Chip Kelly, as his only major accomplishment was winning his division imo - whereas Riverboat's got the first round bye.  Both teams started out 1-3, but the Panthers winning streak was just more impressive.

I don't think it goes to Belichick because he's just expected to make amazing happen on a yearly basis, and does.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
