1st Round TE?

Rules&Regulations

Recommended Posts

Another thing to consider is that bringing in FA WRs has had a habit of failing IMO.

We have brought in several should be #2s only to see them be useless(such as DJ can't Hackitt)

Also TJ whoseyomamma, Chad Johnson, Moss for the 49ers, could argue that Mike Wallace isn't so hot of a deal for Miami, there are others but I don't feel like looking it up.

We should draft 2 solid recievers and do some home cultivation, OL seems to be easier to pick up  in FA and have better contributions from.

I think we will double dip at receiver, be it WR or TE or even 2WR.

That is the course we should absolutely do, unless we bring in a mid to top tier FA WR, then I see us grabbing another WR in the 3-5th instead of 1st and 2nd round.

The other top 3 pick for us is going to be OL or CB depending on how the cookie crumbles.

I think we will bring in a bunch of offensive help this offseason and then let practice sort them all out.

DG isn't afraid to cut the fat so we should stuff ourselves full and burn what we don't use.

Im willing to bet its

1st OL

2nd WR

3rd OL

4th WR/TE

5th CB

We won't double dip at OL, we used a 2nd on Amini and another mid round pick on Kugzilla in the last 2 drafts....won't happen.

1 yea 2 no, 0% chance especially if you look at the Giants history of such things.

Cam tore it up when he had Olsen and Shockey. Tight Ends are cheaper than WR, can be in on more varying formations and plays, and are ideal targets for a QB that tends to sail his throws high. Anybody ever wonder why Olsen is far and away our best receiving threat? Because when Cam zips a ball three feet over his head he has the size to still go up and get it. This is why I've been saying we should draft the best playmaking TE available for the past two years. Look at the elite NFL offenses over the past five years. Elite TE's are a part of them. Jimmy Graham in NO kills us all the time. Hernandez and Gronk made for an unstoppable offense when they were together.

I am 100% on board with running two TE as our primary formation with another playmaking TE and Olsen, and have been saying it for some time now. It would bring our offense up to, or at least close to, the level of our defense.

if Colt is the most talented te, why is he a 5 to 7 pick?

Because he is an idiot.  He missed many team meetings at Oregon and decided to leave (he played 2 games this season).  Not too long after he was arrested for possession of cocaine but won't spend too long in jail as he pleaded guilty.  Had questions about his attitude long before any of this happened as well. So you have to determine if you feel he will change his life around or not.

Off the field issues aside, Lyerla has a legitimate argument for being the most athletic tight end in the draft.  He is extremely versatile and is a very good blocker.  He was apparently 265lbs with only 6% body fat coming into this season, so he has power to go with his speed.  Can be split out wide to receiver, kept in as a tight end, or used for a couple of plays at halfback/fullback.

I like Seferian-Jenkins more though.  He is far more polished as a tight end at this point and I think he would be perfect for Cam and our offense.

I'd rather go CB. I'm pretty sure CB and OT are the two least hit or miss and therefore most likely to pan out.

We need CBs, sure.  And another safety too really.

But we're a Top 5 defense in the NFL *without* an immediate plug-in 1st round CB/S.  What is another one gonna make us?  Even more Top 5'er?

We need to fill other needs.  Other MORE critical needs.  WR and OL being much more critical than any form of DB.  WE NEED TO DRAFT FOR OFFENSE.  We haven't done a DAMN thing to build around Cam since he's been drafted though we've done an awesome job to build the defense.

It's time to give Cam some damn HELP.

Cam had a record breaking rookie season when we ran two TE sets. I love the idea of getting another Big Target for Cam to throw. It also gives us another blocking body for sets when we have Two running back sets. I know that O-line is a concern, but if we have those guys back healthy, I think we can be satisfied with getting some depth in the 2nd round.

If we're going to draft a WR or TE, if we're not drafting someone with 4.3 speed, I only want to see us drafting guys 6'4 and up. I think that if we give Cam some bigger targets, we can compensate for some of his high throws.

    • The bottom line is we saw long stretches this season where T-Mac wasn't even targeted.  He had games where he went an entire half without seeing a pass thrown his way, and it lead to a bunch of games with 5 or less targets.  If he's healthy and we're not up a stupid amount and only running the ball, I can't see him having more than a game or two next year with 5 or less targets. We were also only 22nd this year in pass attempts, and that was with a rookie #1 and no legitimate 2nd option for half the season.  And even then, we were only 46 pass attempts above 31st place. If we go into next season with T-Mac improved in his 2nd season and a healthy Coker for 17 games, there is absolutely no reason for us to not throw it more.  That right away increases both of their target totals without sacrificing any targets from each other or other players, add in them taking targets from the TEs and RBs on top of that, and your argument just doesn't hold water anymore. You can't look at targets/yards in a vacuum and think next year Coker just takes some from T-Mac.  You have to look at the team as a whole and our situations this year and then project what will happen next year. If he's healthy for 17 games, I'd bet my life savings that T-Mac sees increases across the board, targets/catches/yards/TDs.   Just as Coker will also see career highs in all categories, it's not one vs the other, it's shifting offensive strategy given our personnel, which next year will be much better for our passing game (QB issues aside).
    • C'mon now.... First, you can't switch up your argument once someone points out a major flaw in your point. You're saying we shouldn't expect a big increase in targets/yards for T-Mac, but then shift to talking about averages with Chase when I point out the significant leap he took there once you factor in his missing games.  He saw an increase in targets in 5 less games, averages aside, he saw a significant increase in targets in his 2nd season, what he then did with those targets is actually irrelevant in this discussion. Puka seeing no increase is pointless, as he saw such an absurd amount of targets for a rookie, it's near impossible to see an increase. But the real issue in this post is that you think I'm proving your point by showing how Waddle had to share targets with Hill. Tyreek Hill was a 1st team All Pro who was 2nd in the NFL in yards that season. If you think Jaylen Waddle sharing targets with a 1st team All Pro and a future HOFer is even remotely in the same category as T-Mac needing to share targets with Coker... then you are certifiably insane, lol. If anything, you could make the argument that Coker is to Waddle as T-Mac is to Hill in that discussion (which would then lead to a serious increase in targets/yards for T-Mac).  But even that is insane, as neither T-Mac or Coker will be as good as Hill and Waddle respectively that season.  I love both of their potential, but c'mon now, T-Mac isn't getting 119 catches for 1,700 yards and Coker isn't getting 117 for 1,350 next season.
