Got fired today :(

Jackofalltrades

So I get to work today, walk in and before I get to my desk my 24 year old manager says he needs to see me. I walk in his office where tells me to shut the door. He motions for me to sit and says, "I guess you know why you're in here." My response, "no clue actually."

He was completely vague as he cited "service issues" but can't point to a single specific instance where I failed to do my job. Just last week we were talking about adding to my responsibilities and increasing my more. The Operations Manager and I just had a conversation recently where I was complimented on how well I was doing. Now I'm fired?

What the hell? So now I have no job, no explanation and no clue as to what just happened. I was completely blindsided and I'm still shocked - numb even.

So, anyone no of any job openings in the northern end of Charlotte up to Salisbury? No degree and I can't do any lifting or any standing for long periods of time, but other than that I'm open to about anything. My hope is to find something where I can help others, unlike my last job.

Any help is appreciates, as are prayers. Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear that.

Unfortunately in a Right to Work State they can just send you packing. Could be political. Could be the owner wants to buy a second yacht and your salary prevented that. Who knows.

If they didn't document anything and you didn't sign anything on the way out, you can look into a wrongful termination suit, but for at will states, that can be tougher to do. I'd definitely sign up for unemployment to keep a check coming in while you hunt.

The terminal I worked at was having some issues due to safety problems so there was an escalated cost there, but the company as a whole is worth a load of money. I worked for Eagle Transport Corp, a petroleum transport company and it's a very lucrative industry. I made next to nothing.

I agree there are other factors, I'd just like to know what they are.

They laid off 20 people at my company the same day the CEO sent a company wide e-mail proclaiming how much profit we made.

Unless you get the right person in the company drunk, you'll probably never know. If you apply for unemployment and they fight it, they'll have to bring things to the call showing why they did what they did. Most likely they won't fight it though.

damn.

have you considered trying to use the time to get into some sort of tech school or college, even if it's just an associates degree in something? having graduated college at any level would be a huge step up for your resume and marketability.

    • Not many are talking about this player. He played well as a rookie last year. If he refines his blocking, continues studying film, and keeps working hard, I can see him being the next Greg Olsen. I’m expecting 55 catches, 700 yards, 4 TDs this season.
    • I'm not a Bryce hater and I would 100% move on.  Especially looking at how the upcoming qb draft looks on paper.  Hopefully he continues to improve but if in 3 seasons you're still chasing average season numbers then he's not going to be the guy.  You've just got to keep taking swings until you hit.  Average qbs without any elite physical traits cant get it done anymore.  So this year Hopefully he continues to develop and is above average statistically.
    • Meltdowns???? He was pulled by Canales because he wasn't executing the game plan after 2 games into the season so he could watch Dalton execute the offense and show Bryce the windows available in the NFL, how to push the ball down the field and how to step up and move around when blitzed. When Young came back 5 games later he clearly watched and improved. Enough he was named the future starter. He doesn't have a history of  meltdowns nor is there any reason to assume he will have one. From what I have read he is mentally strong and emotional stable. He may have bad games down the road, everyone does. But this is all a learning experience for him and so far he seems to be making progress. I can understand being hesitant on anything Panthers, but Young has surprisingly been able to gain his confidence after a disastrous start. You aren't alone in being cautious but I think he is the future. I thought he was too small and too short to succeed in the NFL. Honestly I was pleasantly surprised last year and am optimistic about the offense for the first time since Wilks and Dalton were decent.
