Thought about Smitty...

lightsout

Recommended Posts

Just got to thinking about Smitty and that knee and how he has been playing it in the media.

Initially, he reported that he was scared it was VERY serious (which is to be expected, as I'm sure that is what he felt).

Then, he said "well, not as bad as I thought, but it certainly hurts like hell".

Then he said, "I'm at about 60%"

Then, more recently, reported that his practice Wednesday didn't go as well as he thought it would, then he proceeded to downgrade himself for Sunday (Ron would later say Smitty looked good and they limited him to be safe).

Smitty also has said that he is "just an old dude" who "isn't on the same level as Crabtree".

Does anybody else get the feeling that he's sandbagging to screw with the media and SF? Also, it feels like (at least, to me) he is a bit pissed at all the attention that Crabtree is getting for this game as being a big play receiver. I feel like he comes out Sunday and just blows it the fug up, because I think that chip on his shoulder blew up a bit going into this game.

Just some thoughts. Now back to one of the 20+ threads about "experts" picking against us and Ric Flair.

    • It goes deeper than that for me. When I started watching the Panthers as a kid I fell in love with Mark Fields’ story during that SB run. He wore #58. Then TD wore it and kept the tradition of the being the soul of the Panthers. The next time someone wears #58 I hope brings that same spirit
    • T-Mac is a nickname, Tet is a shortening of Tetairoa. Like you said below... your name is Jonathan, I could see "Jonny" being considered a nickname, but Jon isn't a nickname, it's a shortening of Johnathan, see the difference? And if your mom named you Jonathan for it's biblical significance/meaning, because she was very religious, I think it would be different. T-Mac is Polynesian, so much in their culture has deeper meaning for them, particularly names.  So for his mom to feel this way, I highly doubt it's just because she likes the name Tetairoa and not Tet, it's much more likely than not to be because the name itself has a deeper meaning in their culture.   Particularly as T-Mac himself has often talked about how much his Polynesian heritage means to himself and his family. And no, I'm not saying all this because of how much he's my guy, if he was just "normal american" and his name was Jonathan and he didn't like fans calling him Jon, I'd probably just say tough poo.  It's that he's Polynesian and I know things like names have a much deeper meaning in their culture than they do in ours for the most part. For whatever it's worth, a quick google search.......
