I'll say it again; franchise & trade. Someone will give up at least a 2nd rounder for Hardy, even with the contract he'll demand. Teams need pass rushers badly and Hardy will generate interest from teams picking in the late 1st/early 2nd round.

 

We can afford to take a step back on defense if it means being able to upgrade the offense around Cam. Addison may not be Hardy, but he's no scrub either and we can manage with him & C.J. with our young DT's & Luke/TD at linebacker. We can't manage with Cam continuing to throw to sub-par WR's and behind a mediocre OL.

if we tag him, it needs to be with the non-exclusive franchise tag.

 

that way, if a team really wants him and we don't want to match their offer, we get two first rounders out of it.

Remember when I said we should have seriously thought of trading Hardy earlier this season? For the simple fact that the money was not there and it was the prime time to do so. Now he wants cash and the Panthers do not have it. I absolutely hate seeing talent like his walk without any compensation for the team at all.

If I understand it correctly, aren't our biggest issues with the cap in 2014 &2015 from the previous regime? If we can spread Kraken's cap hit out so that the bulk of his money is on the back end, wouldn't that ease the burden for the next two years? I'm no capologist, so I truly am just asking. We've got the double trouble money, Godfrey's money, Kalil and CJs inflated numbers, and need to ink Cam too, and as I understand it, about 12M in cap space. It just seems like we have a lot of dead money and previous contracts keeping us from filling all of the necessary holesnow, but should be off the hook of the albatross money in 2 years.
