Jermaine Gresham in 2013 - 461 yards, 4 TDs

Zach Ertz in 2013 - 445 yards, 2 TDs

 

Greg Olsen in 2013 - 816 yards, 6 TDs

 

If we want a guy to catch 400 yards and 2 or 3 TDs per season for us, then we're making a huge mistake by drafting him in the first. Or the second. Or the third.

Lol at Benjamin being there in the 2nd. Y'all laughed at me last year when I said Patterson and Hopkins will both be gone round 1.

Sammy will go top 10 if not top 5. Mike Evans in the top 15 and Benjamin and Lee will probably be late 1st rounders

I don't know that Benjamin is going to be around in the second, so if you want him you'd probably have to pull the trigger in the first (not that I would do it at this point). I have my eye on Ju'Wuan James in the second because of his reported talent, motor and mean streak. I don't know that Purifoy is going to last until our pick in the third, but I'd think about taking Keith McGill in his place, but would more than likely try to sneak McGill in the 4th. It would depend upon if Brandon Coleman is still on the board in the third, or some other WR like Abbrederis or Matthews. I'm also a proponent of getting Marcel Jensen, TE, who is reportedly a capable blocker in the later rounds.

Assuming you like McGill as a prospect, can you explain to me what's the big fuss about? Other than being 6'3" I don't see anything I like when watching cut ups on this kid.

Ever since the camera showed a 5 second clip on this kid at senior bowl practice and Mayock mentioning Sherman and Browners names with his, people have been bringing him up.

He's very slow. Watch the game against Colorado, Richardson constantly burns him. Watch the game against BYU, even when he is in correct position doesn't turn his head and locate the ball. He's very stiff and gets caught flat footed lots. When I watch McGill I don't see an athlete, he's not aggressive at all when it comes to stopping the run either. I know people are saying he could play safety if it doesn't work at corner, but I really don't think the athleticism is there.

At 6'3" it's easy to want to like this kid, so that's why I'm asking what you like about him.

You have some valid concerns. McGill is very raw, but I have looked at a few videos of some of the higher prospects like Desir, Verrett and Gilbert, and I don't see that huge of a gap. I could be wrong though. It's not like watching corners is my forte, but I'm trying to educate myself with what's out there.  He is certainly not physical enough in the run game, even to the point of watching others finish off the tackling lest he get himself dirty (so to speak), but I don't really get why you don't see the athleticism. He's big and long enough to consistently affect the receiver's ability to make a clear read on the ball even when he is not exactly in the correct position from what I have seen, and I would think that with a little coaching that he could be very good. He needs more consistency. Yeah, he's not the fastest guy out there, but I wouldn't necessarily call him slow. Don't get me wrong, from what I've looked at, I think his floor is being a bigger version of Norman, but I also think that his ceiling could be closer to Sherman's. Admittedly (perhaps shamelessly), his size probably makes him look better to my eyes than perhaps it should right now. We'll see how the Combine turns out with him (and some of the others).

 

BTW, Richardson is not a slouch.

I believe that everyone who thinks the "tag & trade" option for Hardy is going to be highly disappointed when that doesn't happen.  But that's just my opinion....
