NFL considering 15yd penalty for use of "N Word" in games

First question.  Is this a problem in the NFL?  Don't know that i have ever heard it on Sundays in any game.

I would assume that most of the flags would currently be against black players since white players using the word in anger in a game would have been exposed long ago?

Is this all because of the Martin/Incognito episode?  Most of that played out on Twitter and texts.

If it is truly not a problem with the players, and it does not offend the audience because they cannot hear it, then the point is........

Why lobby against something that neither black nor white players should be saying? If no one is saying it there won't be a penalty. This is really a harmless rule to pass and protects the integrity of the league. Pretty much saying we won't stand for this kind of crap to fly in our league. I like it and to fight against it sounds to me like your mad you won't be able to say the N word anymore.

Grow up.

I don't care if they pass the rule or not if only the black players are using it.  And, if I used the word, which I don't, an NFL game day rule would not stop me.

I wasn't speaking to you specifically. I was talking about in NFL terms about the players on the field. Fact in I could careless what you say in the privacy of your own home as long as it's not to me in my face u can say whatever u want. I was speaking for the people saying this rule is dumb and more goodell bull. Fact is what does it hurt? It's like getting a ticket for not wearing a seat belt. Something you should be doing anyway that most people do. People should object to it in anyway honestly and If you do it look like your bitter some right is being taken away from you by defending that action. And I need to grow up lol.

My biggest issue with the rule is not the spirit of the rule, but the actual enforcement.

Can't you see guys pointing to guys who said "a bad word" and the ref did not hear it?  This could turn into the old professional wrestling when guys would do things when the refs back was turned.

Will it be for guys on the field only?  What if the guys holding the sticks hear a couple guys on the sideline say the word?  Will they call a timeout and report it?  Is it okay during timeouts or in warmups?

Maybe Ozzie is hearing it a lot with his players or other teams players, but I think if he and all other GM's want this, then it needs to start in team meetings and practices.  Guys need to be fined in practice so that it never gets to the field.

don't let em use it all week and then clutter up the game with all the penalties

The gay slurs will be added to the list immediately also.

In a big pile of people trying to get a fumble, there are probably all kinds of things said.  Not sure the refs will have courses in voice recognition or not, but it will be needed once they pull everyone off the pile.

NFL trying to get rid of all "disrespectful language" in a game, as they put it, is opening a can of worms.  Football players talk trash all the time.  Steve Smith might as well retire as I am sure he has been less than respectful a time or two.

It will not stop with just one or two words.

Fines in practice and having the guys attend some class on disrespect is again, in my opinion, a better way to handle.  The refs cannot get there stuff straight now.  Nip it before it gets to the field if possible.

i'm torn on this. on the one hand it's a word rooted in hatred and oppression and our society would be better off without it, period. on the other hand, historic power imbalances are the catalyst for the word being so volatile, so the fact that it's been appropriated as a friendly, endearing term almost, like 'motherfuger' in some senses, between some african-americans, makes it seem like a culturally-specific, culturally-harmless word is being rooted out because white people aren't allowed to say it.

i see both sides of it and it's tough any way you go.

The power of the word lies in who's saying it. It's like one gay guy calling another gay guy gay. It's like dude your gay too. That said taking the word that you said is deep rooted in hatred and bigotry and using it as a means of love between brothers is a testament to strength and over coming the word and and it's meaning. But,the true meaning of the word is still there and If someone from outside of that barrier calls you that word it could easily still mean the same thing it use to mean during those times.

    • I thought he started to develop good chemistry with Coker over the last half of the season.
    • To put it in perspective, this is a deep ball thrower. Notice how the efficiency basically has minimal drop off regardless of range. This is Bryce Young The other QB is Joe Burrow.
    • It really isn't though If you were to go out to a bar every week of the season, even to just watch one batch of games, i.e. just the 1 pm or just the 4 pm, and spent only $30 a week, you're looking at $540 bucks, $510 if you're just going for the 17 weeks your team is playing, assuming no national games. Also, from past experience, it's hard to spend only 30 bucks if you're at a bar for 3+ hours to watch the game.  Even just a small appetizer, a meal, and say 2 beers was going to run you $40ish, and that was back in 2019 when I used to go to BWW to watch all our games pre the Covid year when I just started finding streams and stuck with that until YouTube got the package from DirecTV. At $450 for a full season, to be able to watch every game, to be able to make your own quad box, to be able to switch between the sound for any game (at a bar in Michigan, I would never get to hear the commentary on our games)... It's really not a bad deal, and that's if you're only watching your team's games.  If you're a fantasy football junkie like myself, then it's a flat out steal, as depending on your TV set up, you can get every game from your fantasy matchup playing.  I do a projector with a quad box on it, a local game on the TV, and then if needed, I can put another game on my laptop and another on my phone.
