When I was 13, during a preseason game in 2007 during warm up's I leaned over the railing yelling and waving at Smith, he came over and gave me a high five along with a few other kids. Some little kid shouted "your my hero Steve" He said, "You guys are my hero's" I'll never forget that and I doubt those kids will. Steve has been apart of my childhood since the beginning. Steve has never refused to sign any of my gear at training camp, he always waves when I see him in the CLT area. He is more than just a player, he is the heart and soul of this franchise. I'll never forget Smitty returning the long ball in 2001, I'll never forget when he took it 69 yards in double overtime to advance us to the NFCCG. I'll never forget when he threw up in a trash can right before catching a TD, I surely won't forget how he threw up 10 minutes later before scoring another TD. I'll never forget how he broke away from everyone on the Texans defense to score a TD, back in the day. How could anyone forget the 100's of fights and skirmishes he has been in over the years. How about last year when he changed a ref's mind and he reversed the call? You better fuging believe I'll never forget the small things he did for this franchise. Steve is coming up on 35 years of age and I knew it would end some day, I just had no doubt in my mind it would end in a Panthers uniform. I hate that changed.

 

Most of all, I'll never forget what Smitty did to get here, from High School, to breaking his neck in college, making it as a 5'9 WR in the NFL. That's what made Steve himself. That's how I'll remember Stevonne Latrall Smith.

I remember when he caught that deep bomb from Jake in the Monday night game against TB years ago.  I was sitting about 12 rows up in that endzone.  I barely caught the play because I had my head in my hands thinking Jake had over thrown him by a mile.  Smitty had to slow up and damn near stop waiting for that ball to get there.

I was pretty young when he joined the team, my 3 memories...

 

1. Watching 3rd round of the draft with my dad and I've got all my draft sheets and available players list out and I'm hoping for RB Lamont Jordan... pick is in... Steve Smith WR Utah (Who the heck is that... a return man in 3rd round!)

 

2.  taking his first career touch on kickoff return for td in Minnesota to open what had to be my hardest season as a panther fan ever.  

 

3. TD catch in 2OT against Rams on deep post route to win the game! that is my all-time favorite Panther moment.

      Fowler: Bucs 23, Panthers 16. Baker Mayfield only won a single game when he was an unimpressive Carolina starter, but somehow he’s 5-0 when playing AGAINST the Panthers. For the Panthers to pull off this upset, they’ll need to score at least in the mid-20s. With Tampa Bay relatively healthy following a mini-bye (and Mike Evans’ return is huge), it feels like this will be too tough a task. Kaye: Bucs 24, Panthers 20. The win-loss-win-loss streak comes to an end. It’s hard to trust the play-calling following the loss to the New Orleans Saints. The Panthers know what’s on the line, but they also knew last week, too. It’ll be close; I just have trouble trusting a positive outcome after a defeating one on the road. Zietlow: Panthers 38, Bucs 35. This prediction goes against conventional wisdom, but then again, conventional wisdom doesn’t seem to apply to these Panthers. This group, after all, has yet to lose back-to-back contests since Weeks 1 and 2. I think they win this one to make Week 18 interesting — and yes, that’s even with motivated Baker Mayfield and future Hall of Famer Mike Evans in good form. Why not?

      Sam developed into a different player after he mostly sat for a year and learned a ton by being in that QB room under Shannahan in San Francisco.  Then he went to the Vikings who have a poo load of talent and another genius level offensive mind at HC in Kevin O Connel. I think they genuinely built up his confidence in a way he never did in New York or Charlotte.  He would not have been the same player if he stayed here IMO. Especially if he had been involved in that disaster season with Frank Reich in 2023, that might have cooked his confidence for good.  I guess you could argue we wouldn't have been that bad if we also kept cmc and dj i guess.

      Willis was impressive last night given the circumstances. GB and SF seem to just have it figured out as far as QB goes.   It's frustrating, but I enjoy seeing our old players find success elsewhere.
