This FO under Gettelmen is leaking a little to much for me.

WOW!!

Makes you wonder at what point did he decide Steve was out. Why not tell him?

I'm still waiting for someone to show me an official statement from Gettleman or the team that said Steve was "out".

Stands to reason that it was something he had been contemplating for some time. Certainly before the press conference that created this fiasco. I've already accepted the inevitable, I just don't see any need in continuing to drag this thing out further, and further. If there is a book on how not to handle situations like this, Gettleman has been following it to a tee.

He made one questionable choice in words and every single other thing that has been said has come from Joe Person right? Has there been a single quote outside of that statement at the combine? The rest has been stirred by our hometown media.

Whether or not it's conjecture...Smith didn't deserve it from Gettlemen or the press. DG better come out and clarify this. Smith deserves better that the "distraction" label.

His camp gave it to himself.

Being a distraction is a lot better $-wise than too old, under-performing, and not that great anymore

That's my point exactly! The entire thing has gone viral because a few assholes took one comment and went batshit crazy with it. And now it seems half this board has lost it's ever lovin mind over some imagined slight and baseless rumors spouted by a worthless reporter!

Am I the only one that sees this?

Nope. The sad thing is, we're in the minority here.

Out of the blue everyone started to believe Joe Person. When he was trying to stir poo on Newton he was the butt of everyone jokes and hatred.

Then why not at least clarify yourself or just stop dragging your feet about cutting Smith??

The sooner Smith is gone the faster this isn't a story. And please don't tell me they are trying to trade him. Nobody is taking that contract and now he is painted as a locker room cancer.

He doesn't have anything the clarify! Gettleman hasn't publicly said anything other than he's evaluating everyone including Smith. That's it! He hasn't said a damn thing about trades or cuts at all. All this crap is coming from Person and his "unnamed sources". The rest is from Steve's agent or "camp". Why is everyone running around with torches and pitchforks after Gentleman?

Dude talking about a player in the past tense (when that player had no clue that his career was ending) is a slight.

Stop over exaggerate most people understands the move. They just don't like the execution of the plan. Also most people here are waiting for Gettelmen's plan to come to light before the pitchforks come out.

Plain and simple this was handled poorly.

    • Comparing a random stat to another rookie QB has nothing to do with the current subject.  Tom Brady had a 6.0 YPA his rookie year.  I hope you're not using one stat to define success of a QB? It's not a problem to want him to do better based on where he was drafted although I still contend it doesn't matter after the fact.  It doesn't matter if we're talking about Cam Newton, Tom Brady, Russel Wilson or any other QB.  It makes little difference once you're in the NFL.  Nobody gets a ring for where they were drafted.   Higher draft picks will get a little more time in most cases as teams want to make sure they've exhausted all avenues before they admit a draft pick can't play.  Other teams might pick them up thinking it wasn't the player but the organization and/or other coaches that caused the player not to succeed.  It's people's expectations that are wrong.  If we could go back and redo all the draft and put guys in the correct draft spot based on how well they played in the NFL, that would be nice.  Then your argument would make some sense.  People assume that where a player was drafted is a statement on how good that player is when the reality is there is a lot more luck than skill in drafting. If Coker turns into a pro bowl receiver and XL becomes a bust nobody cares except fans and the media. What we really should say is it's not too much to expect a player who has started at QB for a team over the last 2 years to be better than he currently shows.   Don't compare 1st round picks.  Compare starting QB's in the NFL.
    • They’re gonna have to go up against a real offense before any kind of judgement can be made of them.  Tlaw looks like damaged goods, Kyler is completely washed, and Penix….well…. they look better compared to last season but that’s what you’d expect with a healthy brown and horn.  I haven’t seen anything that indicates they’ll be considered an overall good defense when the dust has settled. 2002 it is not.
