So... It turns out you can't poo all over respected veterans and find comparable replacements after all...

Gettleman clearly stated when he got here, and reiterated it this off season that because of our cap problem, it will be two to three years before we can be real players in free agency. Until then we have to be patient and find diamonds in the rough. Do none of you pay attention? Why is it so fuging difficult to get that through your thick skulls?Sent from my SCH-I545 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

You're absolutely right. That sounds like a damn fine reason why, in light of our money situation, you keep a veteran WR that's already under contract.

That's what you meant right?

Look... None of these non-signings make a difference to me. Proudiddy has a point tho... When you screw up like Gman did with this Smitty deal (again I mean more the PR side than other things) players you want to sign now and in the future notice.

To say Gettleman didn't royally fug up with Smitty is just wrong.

Can anyone recall a worse offseason for us? I mean, losing Smith, Gross, Lafell, Hixon, Ginn, Mitchell, Captain, and signing literally no one of value.

Read your post again. Do really think we need to financially hamstring this team anymore for that list of players? Gross retired, Smittty was overpriced for his age /production, but the rest of that list? My God, man. Set your sights a little higher than Lafell, Ginn, and Captain fuging Munnerlyn.

I think some of you need to channel your enthusiasm toward boy bands instead of football teams. Hear me out.

Boy bands rarely change members (granted that Lance Bass kid ended up playing for the other team) but he was the exception. Also when they break up, it is perfectly acceptable to go completely b!tchcakes. In fact, it's encouraged. Just something to consider. My 10 year old daughter really digs "One Direction" (not as much as some here dig Dominik Hixon apparently) but still. Give it a try.

I almost feel worse than if my dog died. Still in denial about the whole situation. I'll be angry soon. Then sad. Then the panthers will become the Panthers of 2010. Good defense, no offense. Shulas offensive philosophy ran the offensive FAs away, not Gettlemen. Even though he is a bastard.

My fellow Panther...

i wish mfers would quit giving DG credit for 12-4,he played a role but a smaller role then coaches and players......maybe even fans

fug it im going to call it how it is there's like 4 or 5 of you claiming we aren't making moves because of the CAP situation and blah this and that, why the majority is worried that we just went into a rebuild mode after winning the division..............then you call us whinners and other bs

so there's 1 or 2 of you calling a group of 20 or more whinners................how does that look......pretty damn stupid IMO

Smiths lack of production was a product of Shulas offense. You don't go from 1,400 and 1,200 yard seasons to 700 by osmosis. No one bothered to make that connection and I'm fuging making it right now.

I agree with 98% of everything that Proudiddy has said in this thread, and there are MILLIONS of fans out there that aren't even Panthers fans that would agree with us. Gettleman totally shat the bed with Smitty. You don't treat legends like that. Smitty is already a legend. Everyone keeps focusing on Smittys #s last year which is crap considering the dink and dunk O that Shula called. Smitty wanted to play in the slot, and you're gonna find out how nasty he could have been for us in the slot next year. Btw, mark the Ravens game a big fat L for next year. Nobody knows our offense and defense better than Smitty. His knowledge will kill us more than his production.

Wasn't really expecting us to sign any FAs as per usual. I was totally expecting us to lock up both Mitchell and Ginn though. Letting Mitchell go was beyond fuggin retarded! Rationalize it however u want, it was just flat out dumb! And then people here want to argue that Pittsburgh overpaid him. That's totally irrelevant to the argument! He should have never been able to see what his market was! Should have locked his ass up period!

Another point. River boat Ron has been deafly silent in all of this. Nobody thinks that's odd? I do!!!! He's fuggin pissed!!!! He's a players coach, and right now the players are being bent over and reamed! Ron Rivera has yet to comment one way or another. I wonder why that is? Perhaps he wants to keep his job, and knows that the only way to do so, is to keep his mouth shut.

I knew that we'd be quiet in FA. I've followed and known this team for too long to expect anything different. What I do know is that the dynamic of this team changed overnight. Prior to the Smitty fiasco, this place was known as "the family business" and FAs wanted to come play here, they knew they'd get taken care of. Gettleman just ruined that. He soiled his reputation throughout the League. He got too big for his britches on this one, and I don't think he'll ever recover from this mistake, regardless if he fields a HOF WR corps next year. He'll always be known as the guy that screwed Smitty.

Lastly, just when things started looking up around this franchise and place, boom! We're all reminded of why we are always that fringe team "giving them a reason to talk about us" I'm tired of that poo! I was ready to go out next year and swing for the fence. Ahhhh to hell with it, i am fuggin done!

Well, what else does the forum exist for, rayzor?

This is bullshit.

Everyone here is supposed to be diehard Panther fans who have a pretty solid understanding of how the league works... So, I apologize if I don't go up to the local Starbucks and go off on a tangent about how bad our front office is fuging up to people who could give a poo less about our team, or football for that matter.

Furthermore, when was the last time I posted this often, and this critically? It's been awhile... Mostly when we were losing... And MOSTLY, I was right about what I was posting. As I feel I am now. This sense of complancency within our fanbase disgusts me, especially when accompanied with that smug ass, "well, that's why we're fans and they're execs." Again, bullshit. Yes, these guys have spent their entire lives in the game, but that doesn't mean they're devoid of emotion or human error, or even stupidity for that matter. So with each of these consecutive failures, we have these thoughtless drones come out spewing how it's early and we haven't lost much - completely absolving Gettleman of any present or potential failures, because you know, it's all about Hurney...

Every fuging year we have sucked, the same "play it slow and steady" smugness has permeated this forum until it becomes evident to everyone that we were absolutely horrible... And yet, every year, we have the same people making excuses as to why it wasn't our year and how almost all of the negative things that were going on was the result of us being poor victims.

I don't gave a poo if it's whiny man... I don't understand how anyone can sit here and watch what's going on so far and NOT be angry or outspoken about it. Our fanbase is full of that smugness until it smacks them right back in the face with another subpar season. I'm sick of it man. It's inexcusable.

Now this is good. The Starbucks reference had we crying.

This off-season is going to come down to 2 of Gettelmen's decision not Marty Hurney.

1. Could the Hardy money have been better spent other places?

He franchise Hardy not Hurney. Can he build a competitive winning team around that decision or could we have built a better all around team with that money?

2. Was letting go Smith without a comparable option a good move? We won't know this until we see what the roster looks like at the start of the season. But right now depending on Rookies to make up Cam's weapons is a little discouraging. Would it been better to still have 89 with the rookies we draft?

I do agree with Proud that a losing season is unacceptable.

And if that happens Gettelman shouldn't be able to fall back on the "Hurney Cap Strapped" B.S. excuse.

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
