hmm

call me crazy but im jumping back onto the gman bandwagon and im trying to see a method to his madness. you have to or you will go full retard.  gman is doing what he said he would do.  maybe he sees more in our team than we do?  i will back off from the negative thoughts(smitty) and go along with it. getts is on a one yr "prove it" deal lol.

The problem is, Nicks just signed a one-year deal.  We cut Smith with no immediate replacement targeted.  We missed on Nicks.  We let Ginn walk.  We have not shown any interest in anyone else that we know of aside from Jones.  The consensus late in the season, and I'm pretty sure reporters around the team had mentioned it as well, that LaFell blew his opportunity to become the bonafide #2, and as many fans felt, he wasn't looking to be retained.  If I'm not mistaken, there was even something posted up on the Panthers website that inferred he wasn't coming back - may have been something from the staff, I can't remember.

So, now we blew everything else and we're bringing LaFell back?  I'm sure that does a lot for team morale.  Not to mention, what is so dissatisfying about bringing him back is, he literally deserves a minimum contract, and he likely will be getting more...  I'm guessing at least 2-3M a season.  So, that leaves us what?  2.5M or so until June?  No thanks.  I'd rather spend it on someone else and find out if they suck rather than paying a guy we know already sucks.

Steve Smith signs wih another team, Hakeem Nicks either chooses to sign elsewhere or we have no interst in him, and our primary free agent acquisition right now is Brandon Lafell.

Lovely.

What an exceptional day to be a Panther fan.

Difference?

One has a prototypical QB with incredible ability and talent throwing him the ball.

The other one has a pretty average regular season QB with a lot less ability and talent (no slight to him, he will likely be a hall of famer).

Imagine what Nicks could've done here...  SIGH...  Wait, don't.

I can imagine what Nicks did in NY--if you want to compare him to Lafell.

Summer workouts:  Lafell attended his, Nicks didn't

Team Meetings: Lafell was on time and present, Nicks did not always arrive on time

Injuries:  Lafell was healthy; Nicks was not

Don't get me wrong, I would rather have Nicks, but these are things to consider.

    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
