If we cut sorry ass Byron Bell...

Yes. Let's cut our one guy who at least has starting experience as an OT. Brilliant.

Amini has been a tackle his whole life until he came here. Jimmy has starting experience at qb, but that doesn't mean I want him under center. Bell is garbage and the fact that we need him is depressing.

He wasn't bad enough to keep us from winning games last year. Were you as hopeless before last season started when you found out Bell would be or RT?

Out of all NFL tackles who played at least 1000 snaps, only 18 gave up fewer QB pressures than did Bell.

Yes, I wasn't excited about it then either

Does that include left and right tackles? If so, not too bad. But what about his run blocking?

Then you must have been surprised when only 18 tackles had better years, protecting their QB, than BBell did. And his play certainly didn't cause us to have a poor season.

It is entirely reasonable to assume that his play will continue to improve as he gains more experience and conditioning. There is no reason why anyone should assume he will be worse. The stats don't back up what his detractors are screaming. If you say he sucks, show me some proof, otherwise you're just bellyaching for no reason. Sure, he had some bad games early in the season and didn't look so hot in the playoff game, but who did play well that game?

Sure, I'd love to have an upgrade over Bell, but if that player isn't in the draft at our pick, we will be fine going with Bell. Now, at the other Tackle, someone is going to have to step up...whether it be someone already on the roster or someone we he in the draft or FA.

Our line was smack dab in the middle of the NFL, as far as giving up sacks last season...that was with both of our starting guards being sidelined due to injury. I know we are losing Gross and that hurts, no doubt, but we are returning our interior linemen and I'm hopeful that all of our linemen will see improvement across the board as far as technique and familiarity with the offense.

Yes, all NFL tackles with at least 1000 snaps.

The run blocking, overall, was pretty poor for our team. I'm not gonna say otherwise because it was bad. But what I'm hearing is that people are afraid for Cam and that he won't get protection, which is certainly not the case as our team ranked 16th in sacks allowed. If Bell can improve from last season, we pick up a starting RT and our interior linemen return healthy, we shouldn't see a considerable drop off in the overall play from our line.

Stewart coming back at 100% should do wonders as well. He's stronger at the point of contact than DWill and better inside the tackles, where DWill is prone to missing his cuts and falling down as soon as he gets touched by a defender.

I'd also be surprised if we cut Godfrey. We would only save about 2 million and getting another safety as good as he is for less is probably not going to happen.

Godfrey is a below average S with a 7M cap hit

We could cut him June 1 and he is a 2 M cap hit

That is 5 M in cap space created. Which comes close to doubling our current space

We got better S play for less last year with rejects

Our Cap situation next year is possibly even worse.  I doubt that Gettleman will want to create millions of additional issue by cutting Godfrey.  I doubt he goes anywhere.

We're still paying the 5 million, you've just pushed 3 of it until next year which really doesn't do us a lot of good.

Let's say we do cut him.  Instead of 7 million against the cap, we're only paying 2 this year.  We sign a guy for 1 year @ 2 million.  So, for that spot we're already spending 4 million.

Next year the 1 year guy is gone.  We're on the hook next year for the 3 million for Godfrey being a June 1st cut.

So, at the end of it all next season we will have spent 7 million on that position.

So, really the question is do you think we can get someone better than Charles Godfrey this year for less than 2 million?

Sure, we can get a vet min guy and save 1.5.  It's possible.  There are guys out there in FA who could man the position.  I just don't think any of them is better than Godfrey, assuming he's healthy.

I really, really want to cut Godfrey. He was just ok before he tore his Achilles. He wasn't worth the cap hit then, won't be now either. Cut him with a June 1 designation and save the 5 mil we need for more important positions.

I am not sure how Godfrey will play behind our stellar Front 7.....but I do agree with you about needing cap space
