Cyrus Kouandjio revisted

He has the perfect build for an OT which is not that easy to find but it is above my pay grade to sort out the rest of the stuff. I read Tampa is bringing him in for a visit and the Redskins are interested but at this point I do not know if we are really interested in him.

I think anytime a big guy or any player for that matter has an ACL in college a careful medical evaluation must be done. From my research he has shown the to be really good and in a couple of games he was not so good. These are things I am sure we would vet in interviews.

This may shake out like the Star situation from last year.

It just may.  I am definitely keeping my eye on the situation.  Oh, if we could be so lucky. And I'm just not talking about Kouandjio just falling too us, but making the same type of impact like Star did last year once he does drop into our laps.

If we could come out of this draft with a starting tackle. WR and Cb I would be elated.

it seems no OT is projected as a true LT, even the top guys. last year the #1,#2, and #4 overall picks played RT. ive heard all sort of stuff similar about all this years group-"o hes better inside as guard" "slow foot speed better RT" "short arms hes a guard" "he play college RT so hes a RT" no idea where many of the current OT project as. cryus is long armed young giant, he cannt even legally drink. the OL coach is whats in question, can he take a blob of clay and turn it into a LT? i mainly look at feet for LT, cryus has good feet movement. his problem is once he doesnt have balance or makes a mistake, the building gos down and the QB gets hit. a great OL coach could vastly help that part of his game.

If OT Cyrus Kouandjio is there when we pick at 28th and we select him I will not complain.

I won't either.

Because far be it from me to set myself up as more of an authority than Dave Gettleman, Ron Rivera, John Matsko, or Ray Brown.  If they like him and choose him, well and fine.

I'm only talking from my own experience watching the SEC every year, including the last three years which Kouandjio played.  From my admittedly layman's view, I saw him dominate slower and/or weaker players... and I mean absolutely DOMINATE them.  But when they were faster and/or stronger?  He struggled with consistency IMO.

The NFL is full of players faster and stronger at DE than your average DE at the college level.

I think that is an interesting assessment. Sounds like he is still very raw .....Do you spend your 1st pick on someone that raw when the guy from Ohio State will be there in the 3rd?  Will we be reaching to pick a OT at 28?

Lets hope GMan has the answers

    • I love this draft because they picked the right OL.  It is possible that we have 2 rookies starting on the OL.  I would take Utah's Lomu as well, but for those who think you find the OL in free agency and not the draft, here is all I have to say:  We cannot give $110m to the 5 starting OL.  We need an infusion of youth on the OL as well.  If Ickey returns and can play, I imagine that he takes over for Hunt at RG--in 2027 or so.  Currently, our 2 guards and right tackle make up over 20% of the total cap.  We have to add 2 starters, but if Cade Mays was too pricey at around (anticipated) $8m, then we plan to draft a C, it seems. I think we draft an OT and C now because we will need a G or 2 and a RT soon.  While they were good in 2026, they were not elite.  For that kind of $$, we need elite.  Is starting a rookie LT and C ideal?  Nope.  But if we can get better than Nijman and Mays, we should be OK. I think we will pick up an ILB in free agency and add an ILB.  Who we draft (Mike or Will) will depend on who we sign.  Rodriguez is a favorite of mine, but if Golday is there, Morgan is going to take him.  Morgan will love him. I do not think we need to overpopulate the edge position right now because we have 1 edge returning from injury (Jones II), one rookie from last year ready to step up and could be really good (Scourton), and another who could be ready to step into the situational pass rusher role (Princely).  2 hold the edge very well and if we had a situational pass rusher to join Princely, we could be much better. I think rookies at Edge tend to jump considerably from their rookie seasons to years 2 and 3.  (Charles Johnson, Mike Rucker, and Greg Hardy were that way-and all became very good in time. Safety seems omitted, but we shall see.  That could be another free agent acquisition.
    • Id like Evans from Duke in the draft as a shooter for the second unit. And probably a more athletic big to replace all, he's good but doesn't really fit the style. White, Evans, green, Williams and center tbd is a pretty good second unit
