Pair that with the other rookies who are also showcasing early glimpses and we have a very solid young core. Going forward not only do we need to solve the LaMelo Ball conundrum we also need to leave no stone unturned in looking at potential head coaching upgrades. I like Charles Lee in general but I just don't know that he is the guy to shape this roster into a contender. I think we need someone with more experience who can unlock the potential of the young players.

There can be multiple truths simultaneously. Evero and the defense have undoubtedly been a reinvigorated force and it has been a collaborative improvement no doubt. However there have been instances where he had fueled criticism of his scheme and his playcalls. But that has happened with all of our former defensive coordinators even ones who are highly regarded in franchise history. And there is also the elephant in the room which is the salary cap allocation to his side of the ball which is bottom 5 in the league for the year. There's only so much you can realistically expect from any coordinator with that circumstance. And right now they are certainly overachieving which is a great sign for the culture we're trying to build here. All that being said though. Evero. Much like Canales and our starting QB. Still has to get out there and establish some sustained success more than one or two games at a time. Finishing the season strong is what we need to see.

I don’t care who was DC they were not going to have a chance they way the defense was neglected for the better part of three years. Get him some more talent. Or whoever is DC. As far as Evero, why go sideways when you have almost gotten a thing built? Tepper can’t stop him from taking a HC gig, and if I were him - unless I really hated it here - I’d wait for the HC opportunity. Continuity is super important and we haven’t had it for years now, but are getting some. Try to keep it.

It looks like he's really starting to get his leadership role entrenched. I'm not a huge fan of his schemes at times, but I think we may lose him to a HC offer potentially because of that leadership quality. It's the trait I liked most in Ryans before we hired Frank, but he refused our interview request.

Ive never understood not going after a center after Kalil's neck injury. Center is the keystone in the offense as much as QB. Our line has really struggled without that leadership position. That's always been a core of offense to me, even moreso than tackles. We were spoiled with his level of play.

Select free agents as mid-price players with high leadership and locker room skills with great practice commitments. Grab your stars and role players in the draft and have them molded by the vets who make up the kind of team you are trying to be. With the right core of solid players, you can make a lot of progress farming up first and second round picks, getting five affordable years out of them and then moving on, either trading them away or grabbing compensatory picks when they leave. It's not flashy and doesn't make sense to the fantasy football crowd, but really, a team only needs one or two star quality players on it to make it big. Those two must be ones that are directly involved in every play, though, like a QB, DE, MLB or OT. That being said, if your team's star player is a WR, you've got a problem, because it's a crap ton of money on a guy who might figure heavily into one third of your offensive plays.

I think the reason we immediately picked up Darnold's 5th was what we traded to get him and it wasn't reasonable to expect him to reach his potential on a new team in a new offense in a single season given where he was at in his career. I think 2 seasons was a reasonable expectation, especially given the fact he had been coached by Gase.

I can subscribe to this. For men with pride, it’s not about the money. The 2 things that I hope hook him in to staying: 1. His wife and kids are calling Charlotte home and don’t want to move. 2. He is now starting to see his vision unfold. I humbly recant my EE bashing that I’ve done in the past. Guy is putting together a stout defense.

Throw a qb in there and thats a fantastic draft. That said Styles is going rocket up draft boards when he starts testing. Kid is really good and has a nose for the ball. I like reese better as he is in another stratosphere but Styles is really good.

The question is, do we resign him this offseason?
