Odds on trading Hardy

We didn't pay it all out at once.

51%

Yes, but we're already a cash strapped team and dumping Hardy between now and the draft seems really unlikely. That's the only way that 1.3 doesn't count against our cap. Why would we be looking to take on even more dead money? And if we're sure we can trade him before the draft then there's no need to even work out that advance with him. There's a <1% chance Hardy gets traded.

I think the odds are much lower than they should be. We should have a long term deal done by draft night or we should trade him away. Letting him walk for nothing but a comp pick is a suboptimal outcome.

Absent Gettleman pulling off the greatest draft in Panther history, a Super Bowl run is unlikely next year with all of the holes we have on offense and at DB (but we should certainly make the playoffs and anything is possible once you're in). Taking the long term view, this doesn't seem like the best time to push all the chips in - so we need to either decide that the Kraken is part of the long term core and get a deal done or get assets back for him and draft guys who will be part of that core.

I don't think we are going to get a ton of reverse inquiries and I can't see Gettleman calling up ten different teams on draft night to make a market for Hardy. So I say less than 5% chance he is traded.

as much as I want to trade hardy, I have to say giving the guy an advance to attend OTA's deffinately kills that idea

Why are you so eager to trade Hardy? It's not exactly easy to replace 15 sacks...

So he signed his one yr contract and we advanced him some cash?  Not sure why this can't be worked out in a trade if needed, but either way,

I think only a 5% chance of trading Hardy.

I have only one trade up scenario which would be Cleveland taking Watkins at 4 and trading with us for the 26th pick if OBJ is still on the board.  They can still get their QB at 28 since NO will not be replacing Brees.

My biggest hope is that Jax trades back into the first round with us and we pick up an extra pick.

Actually, all of these are only about a 5% chance of materializing.

I think frank alexander can step in and not miss a beat, I also think more sacks will come from the DT's, If carolina can trady hardy and grab some more young talent with tno drop off in production with frank the tank filling in, then why not do it.

Ha, just found a mock which would lend itself to my only trade up scenario.

    • Apparently the extension he signed before the season was also a little weird, as it had a very low signing bonus. So the Jets have a very small dead cap hit despite trading a big contract that was signed just 2 months ago. I guess it was only a $13 million signing bonus, and trading him mid-season means it's something around only a $10 million dead cap hit left to take. This is a huge win for the Jets for a player I've long felt was overrated because of a great nickname and an amazing rookie season that he's then failed to fully live up to since them.  Combine that with everyone knowing the Colts seem more mirage then legit long term contender, that 2027 1st in particular could end up being a really good asset for the Jets.
    • Steichen has the offense operating at a super high efficiency with JT/Pittman/Warren/Downs.  The OL is strong. The D - the front 7 has been sneaky good.  They don't instill much fear but do enough.  Buckner is stil playing at a high level.  It's a good system on both sides of the ball.  Blue chip players now at every position group.   Overall, the NFL is wide open right now. Seahawks, Colts, Patriots, Rams, & Bills are at the top of the mid-season hill - which is just wild Lions, Bucs, Broncos, Chargers* are in contention/okay spots (LAC is losing guys left and right though) Chiefs, Philly still linger, you can never discount. Steelers, 49ers are around as always.
